Just did a load in for gig, just to re-pack

1st time for me.....Gig tonight, Me, drummer and guitar player {Female singers B/F}
was about to start sound check and get a call from singer...she isn't coming, she is going to the hospital....over her pulled back :eyebrow:

From what we got...she was driving our band truck {24 ft box truck} with ALL our gear {FULL PA/Light's/Various Road cases} and the straps came loose, **** dumped and rolled all over the truck. She get's home, was moving gear back into position to re-strap and jacked up her back.
{The reason she was driving it is because it's her fathers company truck}

Her father came to her house to help and said she was on the floor and couldn't move, crying her eye's out.....

Now....I am 42, I have played with a broke wrist,broke toe, with a stomach virus {puking} my back is ALWAYS jacked up, and I get through the gig...she is young {26} and in shape.....I don't know how bad she really is, but starting to wonder if there wasn't something else going on....this was our 1st gig at this bar and just lost some good $$

I think you should give her the benefit of the doubt. You assume that what your back feels like is what she is experiencing. If she truly reached it the wrong way the muscles can be severely whacked. I have had times where I can't leverage myself up, always from twisting and lifting at the same time. Wait to pass judgement.

Well, our guitar player is her B/F and I asked him if he thought she was really that bad off. He said she is a bit of a drama queen and that he didn't know.
He txt me a few moments ago saying they are sitting at the ER and she's been crying off and on the whole time...she is a tiny lil thing {5' 2 and MAYBE 100 lbs} and we have some heavy gear....who knows, I guess I am used to "manning up" and "the show must go on" {old school} ;)

I understand her driving the truck as it belongs to her father. Why wouldn't someone else be with her? That and she should have called the someone to help her move the stuff back if it's that big and not attempt it herself. Drama queen or not (and not to sound sexist) but moving gear is not for a smallish women. Next time move the gear as a band.

Well....everything is on wheels :D

I brought my gear home tonight...I just noticed I am missing a latch on my gator case, :eyebrow: my road case has a few new marks on it. Drummer just emailed me and said his tolex on his subs were ripped, I THINK our stuff took a serious dive, she may have been actually lifting stuff. :scowl:

We are starting to thing she was driving that truck like her mustang and was running late, slinging gear around and hurt herself trying to get the pack back in order....so technicality, she brought this on herself

Perhaps she caused it - perhaps not. You might ask her and stop speculating.

Or not. At this point she knows better than to do this again.

5 foot 9 inchs 250lbs 25 year old. Full time deisel mechanic so yeah i can move some weight!

Pulled my sacrum and turned into instant 6 year old girl! It hurt to think about moving let alone do anything. I had to crawl from the drive way to the house i couldnt breath enough to yell for the wife. That was a long process of recovery. Kept agravating it at work.

So give her the benifit of doubt.

She was running late, and normally she only carry's the lighter stuff.
Drummer and I ride together, her B/F came on out to the bar because the truck was packed/strapped {apparently not good} OR she was driving the truck like a nascar event {she drives her mustang like that}

Either way, Bad strapping, or her driving..whatever it was, the gear broke free, she as trying to get it fixed...and the reason she didn't call one of us is she is a typical, hard headed woman :smug:

You have to give her the benefit of the doubt regarding the injury. I work on jacked up backs and necks for a living, and I've seen some large, tough, career blue-collar guys reduced to crying and cursing from this kind of thing.

But if she was being Speed Racer with all the gear.... :spit:

Very real.

I saw it happen to my female roommate, a kindergarten teacher, same age (26). She was picking kids up one day and boom, out went her back. She was crying in agony on the floor and waking up at night moaning out loud in pain, making deals out-loud with nobody in particular to never lift anything again if it could just stop. This went on for two days until she went to the doc and he set it back in place. It was solid, non-stop pain and I felt horrible for her.

A day later she was rearranging furniture. Doc fixed it.

Sounds very real, you should be thanking her profusely and bringing flowers because if she knew you were questioning her while in that kind of agony after strapping up your gear, she'd probably ditch you...

Well, the reason I questioned it is because she IS a bit of a drama queen, something as simple as a paper cut and she will make it sound like she broke her finger...lol I love the girl to death, like my own daughter, but she has over reacted on things before.

The way you described her injury and the pain sounds like exactly what I saw. I've had it too but not like she did. Her pain was so bad that WE couldn't sleep, we heard hear moaning all night through the walls.

I think you will be inviting the wrath of hell if you are anything but sympathetic to her, in her mind this only happened because she was helping you guys...

Boyfriend {Guitar player} brought the truck from her house to the bar, the injury happened at her house when she was re-packing whatever spilled or shifted. She had him drive the truck to the gig, she was at home in SOME pain and a heating pad on her back. was going to come to the gig after a shower and what-not

He said at the time it didn't seem to be that bad.
