Just got a 1993 Ibanez SR2000 OL, please help with any information?

EMG is very modular so you can get bass/treble plus the sweepable mid or get just Bass/Treble without the mid and add the mid later or not.
Easy enough to look and see if yours is EMG or not.
so this is odd... pcb board wrapped in foam. is that stock? also no serial number in this cavity. I have no idea how they dated this bass, they told me they found a serial in the cavity and sent it to their vintage department and they deemed it wasn't vintage sooo where did they find a serial? I asked them to send me the pic they supposedly took.... ***.
Foam is not uncommon. Doesn't look like an EMG preamp. Hard to say if it's original cause I'm not well versed enough to know what the original looked like
. Is the serial number or and Ibanez Japan logo on the inside of the cavity cover?
I am not an Ibanez expert by any means --- but the little googling I did came back as your specific model (fingerboard wood etc.) was ONLY made in 1993 and no other year. (i.e. maybe that's how they dated it without a serial numaber).
I'm really curious what it cost you. Some guy was selling one on Reverb for $3500

It's a really cool bass and it is sort of rare (there are a bazillion SRs out there but not a lot of maple ones). It's no surprise it has a Spector vibe, it's made with nearly the same materials. Enjoy it, from your videos I'd suggest sweeping that vari-mid into the low mids and trying to boost a little to add growl and warmth.

It might have been $1600 In 93'. It was the highest level 4 string they made that year. Doesn't mean it's worth 3.5k now thoughI'm really curious what it cost you. Some guy was selling one on Reverb for $3500
it was only $699 at Guitar Center, which I think is a good price.....then again, maybe GC is just bad with pricing. In 2006, I got my American 1987 G&L L2000 for only $599 lol and that bass is a beast. I saw the one where he was selling for $3500...that's nuts. i doubt it's that rare, but rare enough that it was only made a couple years from what I'm seeing. Plus, if it's true that combo was only made in '93, then that's cool. The natural finish is cool, and it's so different from anything I have because it isn't gloss.
So reedt...i'm still SO confused with this varimid stuff. so ok, from what I've seen, if i jack both top and bottom knob all the way to 10, then it's very high end sounding. When i start playing with the bottom knob when the top is at 10, i really hear it sweep the freq. I honestly cannot comprehend the best way to adjust this knob to get optimal setting which is why i've been keeping it notched at 5 to get the default tone. I just can't figure the EQ out too well

Well, you're on the right track. You can hear the sweep so try something simple. Turn the mid boost up so the sweep can be clearly heard as you play and sweep the knob (it's the collar of a stacked knob right?) through the mid range frequencies. Listen for one of 2 things, either when it sounds good or when it sounds ugly and wierd. In the spots that sound good, boost. When it sounds weird, cut. You can turn the bass and treble down to get a better idea of what the mids sound like when trying to find spots to adjust (turn them back up to get the final tone). Any boosting or cutting should be gentle, that thing gives you 15db of boost or cut so cranking any of the bands all the way up or down won't sound very good.it was only $699 at Guitar Center, which I think is a good price.....then again, maybe GC is just bad with pricing. hmm, OK cool, I didn't try by turning off the treble and bass knobs. good thinking! I can get a cool honky type tone with the treble down and finding the right mids, which I like for the p pickups (I do it in my L2000 with distortion to get a cool honky gain) but from what I've been playing with, I haven't really found a cool usable mid except in the middle. I'll really have to sit and listen and figure it out. I've never really been a guy who uses EQ on a bass, because my L2000 literally has volume, tone, and bass and that's it. my stiletto has bass, treble, and mid but that's easy. this one is just nuts to me lol.. i usually just tweak my amp to get tone.
Yeah, I love my L2500. I don't really fool with the knobs at all. I will play on the bridge PU only for a funky & punchy tone but 90% of the time I just run both.
yup! that cool juicy tone of both pickups is just great, especially on my fender stage 800 when I use the swr "redhead" setting. so bassy and punchy I love it. but i love the neck pickup on that thing too, it just sounds great! the Ibanez has such a punchy A string tone, I've never had a bass that punchy on the a before lol I love it.
I've got three premium SR's,in my opinion you can't beat the top Ibanez basses quality for value
That mid isn't that complicated,one control is cut/boost the other controls at what frequency that happens hope that helps

the SR2000 with afr p/j pickups was first available late 1992 and it had the EQBII preamp (2way). this one was maple body rosewood board with a 5pc maple/walnut through neck. only came with oil finish (natural). list price was 1399.95
in 1993, transparent purple finish became available in addition to oil. fretboard was changed to wenge. preamp was changed to vari-mid 3 band eq. inlays changed from pearl oval to abalone oval. list price was 1799.95 or ¥130000
in 1994, the trans purple finish went away. 24th fret inlay became a rectangle with custom made printed within.
1996 was the last year the SR2000 appeared in a catalog with this kind of configuration. in 2008 there was a SR2000E but had different pickup configuration, wood, hardware etc.
there was also a SR2000E in 1988-1989 but it's super rare and i've only seen one online. maybe two.
