Just got a vasectomy...

If I had waited till I was "ready" to have kids I never would have had them. I never wanted kids, never thought I'd enjoy being a father, blah, blah, blah. But I could not imagine life without my two boys now. Sure I don't get any sleep, it's a TON of work, I have no free time to do anything I want, it's frustrating, exhausting, etc. But it's still totally worth it, 100% no regrets. Get the V after the kids.I was scheduled for one today, but I chickened out. My girlfriend really has me thinking about children. I never wanted any kids until I scheduled the appointment, now I keep having second thoughts.
Has anybody without children had one? How do you feel about it now? I am 38 years old and still haven't made my mind up about children.
Remember this is coming from a guy that was totally against having kids, didn't like kids, couldn't stand the sound of a baby crying, had no idea how to interact with kids, couldn't understand why other people would want kids, etc.
(Well, I still can't stand the sound of a baby crying, but for different reasons now. )
I'm getting mine done in 33 days. Yeah I'm pretty darn terrified, but I've got 3 kids already and an IUD failed so I now have a 4th (obviously unplanned) on the way, so there's no way around it. If I have the option of being put under I will and I'll go with Vicodins or whatever pain pills they give me as well. I must say this thread makes me even more scared than I was, but it's nice to know all you guys lived through it.
Had it done 2 years ago. The worst part was the smell. Although I do wonder about the long term effectiveness, as my cousin, who had been vasectomized for 10 years, fathered a kid. He just knew his wife had fooled around, but looking at father & son, there's no denying he is the father. I also have heard of this happening to others. I tried to find info on this little "oops" factor but found nothing. Anyone have any facts about this? Just curious.........
Point- simply caghterizing (sp) ocassionaly does allow leakege.
My doc (I think I have this right) stitched the inside tube, burnt it, pulled the outer layer or it, stitched it and burnt it again. He still claims that he has never had a vas reversed.
Story 1. The control on the reostat or potiometer on the burny thing was loose and the doc asked me to hold the knob in a specific positin. I accidently bumped it. Fortunetly he saw it and said something about being left with two raison burning.
Story 2. My foreman on the Railroad developed tumors wherever he was cut. Eventually agter removing the tumors a couple of times and the right meds, they would stop developing. The guy had a tooth pulled, and whamo, three or four weeks later a tumor about the size of a small grape. Well the guy got a vas.
I saw him pass out, just from sitting on chair. If the truck hit a bump, he would get white as a ghost and just about fall over. His job that he liked to do was run the backhoe. It was pretty funny when he had to run the impact chisel on it. That whole tracor would shake and bounce. Sometimes he would last a half hour, sometimes twenty seconds. He would crawl down and go laydown someplace or we would catch up with him in the bar.

Not sure why this isn't more widely known - there is a "no needle, no scalpel" procedure that can be done here. Takes 15 minutes to do. No stitches and no pain (a little soreness, but nothing ice and a couple ibuprofens can't take care of). No needles are used for anesthetic, either. Mine was really easy - was back in business (if you know what I mean) after a couple days...

Oh, trust me, I wanted to go that route (and I thought it was brought up in this thread) of having the no scalpel "keyhole" vasectomy. But, alas as I explained before I couldn't because I had a lipoma on my right vas, so on the table was the only option for ensured (moreso) success.
Well, mine has been a week and a day and I'm having some soreness, pain and maybe some complications. Not sure what, but they're looking into it.
Sorry - I didn't read all the way through the thread. This is a great option, but I guess not for everyone...
Ah, no worries bro, I'm glad you mentionned it, it's good that people are informed of the options...no foul man!!!!
I am surprised that so many people have done this. But I guess after having all the kids you want with the lady of your life, that's what you shall do.
