Just Got an Ampeg SVT-DI to try out

Well I'll take a pass on the Countryman by itself, but stick it into the speaker out of an SVT or V4B and it becomes awesomeReally appreciate it, they all sound great really.
This is probably due more to the output transformer than anything else.
I drew out the schematic years ago for this DI, if anyone is interested.

I imagine the tranny was made by Electrical Windings like most of their stuff back then? Was reading a bit about it, and found out that it was never really intended to be sold to a wide market...that SLM let Obeid Khan do a small run of them as a little vanity project and never pursued it past that point. Seems like they missed the boat on it to me...but I guess things were a little different in 2004.
Yeah, being a full-on tube amp, there are simply more capabilities for tonal variation with the PF-50T. And of course, it has power tubes that you can overdrive whereas the DI's only do cleans. It's a little harder to stuff into a gig bag pocket, but tube amps do rule.

That Reddi is the real deal still too rich for my blood. My PF-50T was no slouch and the fact that you can use two outputs at the same time is really nice and Jimmy that bass sounds great nice tone.

The differences are slight to my ears, but for me, the winner is the SVT. It seems to have the best handle on the G string

I think the biggest takeaway from this whole sound comparison is the huge difference between the Countryman and the others. The Countryman is so harsh sounding in comparison. Once upon a time, I thought the Countryman was the DI to have. Boy, was I wrong! The others are soooo much sweeter!
Agreed 100%. But I bought it with the specific purpose of using it as a speaker DI for my SVT and B-15, so I'm not disappointed to have spent the money for it. But yes, I always hated DI's till I got introduced to the idea of tube DI's with real transformers and speaker DI'ing tube amps.

After checking out the price of a used Countryman Type 85 it's the best value out of the bunch.

Very well
Just plug it in between the speaker out and cab using speaker cables, switch the 85's pickup/speaker switch to speaker and it's done. However, since you have a PF-50T, you're covered, although if you use a bigger tube amp on gigs you might enjoy the speaker DI. Useless with a SS or hybrid, fantastic with a tuber.
Jimmy, these are exemplary samples for the consistency of playing and the range of passages chosen.
To my ear, the more aggressively played passages sounded slightly tighter and rounder on the bottom end, and less harsh on the top end, coming from the SVT-DI, which I thus ranked first ahead of the SVT 50-T, the Reddi completing the trifecta.

Anyone else here get a weird feeling listening to the PF-50T sample, and not getting the sound of the speaker mated to it? I just wanna throw a big old floppy 12 or 15 inch cab in front of that thing. It sounds kinda gross to me without a speaker in the signal chain.
I really like the Ampeg DI sample best. It seems smooth, a bit pillowy, but not dirty or crackly.
