Of the cabs I've used (Avatar Delta 210, Avatar Delta 115, Ampeg 410HLF, Ag DB410, Ag DB210, and Ag DB115), my favorite single cab is - by far - the DB115. The DB410 is punchier, but the DB115 has better bottom end, and I don't find it flabby or lacking note definition. I like the 210 and 115 together, but the ideal dual-cab rig for me would be 2 - DB115s.

I am wondering if he is going to say a 12.... (better dispersion than an 18) or if he is referring to his multiway systems keeping low frequency only to the larger drivers improving overall dispersion.

Or! Is this something new coming out.... time will tell but I am watching :-)

With all thing’s equal, a good 10 has better dispersion than a 15 - yet everyone knows a good 15 will spank the 10, so as important as dispersion is and shouldn’t be downplayed neither should driver size (moving more air). 15s Rule!!! :D

No one would compare a single 10 to a single 15.... Yes the Vd would mean more bass potential on the 15 and yes the 10 has better dispersion.

So, a vertical array of 10's is one answer - you can very quickly equal the 15 in Vd without compromising the horizontal dispersion. It is also easier for you to hear yourself on stage.

Another answer is use a 410 but only have one pair of vertical speakers (maybe the right for example) full range and the other side 500 Hz and below. This way dispersion is not significantly worse than a 10, it looks traditional and will spank most 15's :-)

I'm sure it is and I'm more than happy with the Compact. Not being critical of the cab at all but it's a fact of life with any 15 that if you stand 45 degrees off-axis there'll be a significant lack of highs.

I'm too old for leaping around a stage so standing in the beam is not a problem for me.

My previous post was more a reaction to the "be-all-and-end-all-in-every-possible-way" tone of the thread. Playing devil's advocate and trying to inject some reality into the discussion.

Are there cons to 15s? Sure. There are cons to everything. But the pros greatly outweigh them. And taken in total, the aggregate pros/cons of 15s (especially the best 15s) leads to only one conclusion…






























15s do, IN FACT, rule! :D

I like 15"s very much but if I could get a smaller driver to achieve the same performance with no downsides then I'd be very happy indeed. Sadly the laws of physics decree that you either have to give up sensitivity or bass response with a smaller driver so going smaller can never give you everything but...

I like 15's but wouldn't say that they rule. Just that I like to have at least one cabinet with a 15 in it.

In an act of TB forum defiance I have put a different driver in my Aggie DB 115. What would possess me to do something so foolish? I wanted to shave some poundage off of the cab and change to 4 ohms to get the most out of my beloved but not overly powerful Eden WT-400. I installed a FaitalPRO 15PR400 just the other day. Still breaking it in but so far I'm happy with the change. Most notable impression to my ears is a bit less prominence in the mid-range and maybe a tad more clarity. I will give a more detailed report after spending some more time with it. Please don't hate me for my heresy. :)
