Has anyone else noticed that once he posits the scenario, he disappears? Thanks to EdBass, I now suspect illicit activity, here. Dare I mention the "L-word" (Liar), maybe even of the BF (big fat) variety? Perhaps just a bit of pot-stirring, though...

Yeah, she's probably thinking that the Stingray won't be worth much in 6 months, after all-it can't breed and spread its seed!

Tell her firmly that if the Stingray is not on her radar at this time, it should be (on her radar) about one month before Christmas. That way-you can enjoy it on the holiday with no more waiting! Then, she sees that you know how to stand up to her, and she is given an A or B choice.

The triple crown winner in 1977 was 'Seattle Slew". A horse can only compete for the Triple Crown as a three year old, so winning three years in a row is impossible. If you are really in a position to buy one of his offspring, the price of a MM Stingray is like the change in your car ashtray.
Otherwise, the earlier posts advice all applies.

It's a shame you can't get a bass. But, forget that; what I want to know is how did you go from $85 a mo. disability and paying your way through life using student loan proceeds, pawning your bass for car repairs, etc. to owning and breeding six figure thoroughbreds in just over a year???







I think THAT’S the story that would be the most entertaining. Maybe some fellow TBer’s could follow your model to success; how did you do it?
Did you get your masters like you said you were going to do and nail down a big money day gig?
Did you marry your older girlfriend who threw her mother out of your house for not paying bills, or did you snag a rich cougar?
Did you steal the horses?

Really, tell the story. If not inspirational, I’m sure it will at least provide some good laughs…

I actually don't have much. The horse farm was originally hers when I moved in with her. It's not 85$ disability it's 674$ and I'm still on it for the time being (working on changing that but want to make ABSOLUTELY sure that I"m ready). The horse was just dumb luck. This woman gave us 3 retired races as a way to thin out her lot. 2 of the 3 are in their 20's and can only be bred for a few more years, the 3rd one (seatle slew's great grand daughter) didn't win much in the races.

But yes my wife is 10 years older than me. We're not rich and struggling quite a bit, through her determination she's found the connections needed to make the investment in the horses and since I'm considered to emotionally unstable to work I stay home and work at my own pace with the animals.

Trust me it's not a success story. Actually it's a huge risk because if something went wrong there's really no safety net. So far things are working and I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way.

How much do you guys spend on the horses each month - they aren`t cheap. With minimal proper care, I would guess at least $300 / mo. I would have to point out to her that if she can spend that on big smelly animals, but not her husband, there is a major problem.

My wife doesn't work, or earn any money. In fact once a sum passes $1,000, I don't think she has a very solid grasp of what it means -- she was always poor before we hooked up.

So I buy my gear with my own money. And yet it's _still_ hard to explain to her why I need the new gear that comes into the house! D lol

Assuming that it's not a choice between feeding your children or a US Lakland, I couldn't imagine having to "ask permission" to buy anything. I've never had a relationship like that and just flat out wouldn't. My wife just laughs when another box of whatever lands on the doorstep which is usually something from Amazon for our daughter or wherever for me. She buys basically nothing except Starbucks and hates jewelry, clothes shopping and owns 4 purses (black, brown, green, checkered - covers all the requirements according to her).

I think that some guys have bad pickers.

My personal theory......if you can, check your potential future mother in law's closet....If you see more than 10 purses and 15 pairs of shoes, break it off. Although I didn't do that, I'd be more than safe as my mother in law has more pairs of soccer & running shoes than dress shoes.
