For musicians, I recommend being together for a minimum of a year before tying the knot. This will give you time to evaluate how she responds to the other love of your life (music).

Frankly a lot of women are in love with the romantic idea of being married to a musician. They just aren't aware of the realities of their husband having huge, sudden, crippling attacks of GAS.

If you can show that you are being reasonable in your desires, and you make sure that she is also getting what she needs/wants, then most women will be more likely to allow the purchase.

I do believe that it is often easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask for permission, but it is better yet to help your wife understand your needs (or even better, set aside "X" money per person from the proceeds that can be spent without discussion) so that you don't have to ask permission.

Well since then we got these 3 retired race horses, one is the offspring to seattle slue (the only race horse to win the triple crown 3 years running I think). Anyway we just put them out with the stud and we were talking about what to do with the money once we sell the foals. Aside from the obvious we still should have plenty left over so I asked her for a MM stingray.

She asked me how much it cost and found out... then promptly said no and that she doesn't think it's wise to spend so much on an instrument...

The triple crown winner in 1977 was 'Seattle Slew". A horse can only compete for the Triple Crown as a three year old, so winning three years in a row is impossible. If you are really in a position to buy one of his offspring, the price of a MM Stingray is like the change in your car ashtray.

It's a shame you can't get a bass. But, forget that; what I want to know is how did you go from $85 a mo. disability and paying your way through life using student loan proceeds, pawning your bass for car repairs, etc. to owning and breeding six figure thoroughbreds in just over a year???

So I'm enrolled in college and every now and again I get a stipend check from my studet loans. Well I got a check from them yesterday for a grand. All my books have been ordered, software bought, tuition payed. So I start getting excited. I finally get to settle some gas I've been having and get that 450 watt rig I've had my eye on and possibly a squier to go with it. Then my fiance' hands me the electric bill.... we're 3 months past due an it' comes up to 900 dollars.... plus late fees. FML

apparantly you haven't been in my house because we only have 1 laptop. no game system. no cable. a cheap stereo, no washer, no dryer, a single window unit ac, and my pitiful 15watt amp.

of coarse we live on a well so our water pump is electric... oh and i forgot to mention living out in the middle of nowhere tends to only allow us one possible electric company. So I'll give you another shot as to why the light bill is so high.

Went to a pawnshop last week because I needed money to get my car fixed (tire fell of while going down the road). I bring my Traben Array 4 along with my IBZ15 practice amp to get the money needed.

They offered me 30 bux for the amp (not to thrilled but it was acceptable.) and 40 for the bass. Now granted it's got a chip in the paint and a loose nob, but considering that it's 400 new (which is a 100$ jump from when I bought it) I think it's worth a little more then 40 bux. Eventually after haggelling with them about it I talked them up to 105 for the bass and still 30 for the amp. I still feel ripped considering that I have to pay 200$ to get them both out of hauk (which btw is monday. I have the money in hand so YAY)


anyone ever actually have to put a beloved bass into a pawnshop and actually get somewhat of a decent deal out of it.

I think THAT’S the story that would be the most entertaining. Maybe some fellow TBer’s could follow your model to success; how did you do it?
Did you get your masters like you said you were going to do and nail down a big money day gig?
Did you marry your older girlfriend who threw her mother out of your house for not paying bills, or did you snag a rich cougar?
Did you steal the horses?

Really, tell the story. If not inspirational, I’m sure it will at least provide some good laughs…
