Just pulled the trigger on a Crown XLS 2000!

As I stated earlier here, some say just leave the HPF alone. But might using it help protect certain cabs from getting too much loud, lows?

For example, I use my Crown CD XLS1500 bridged @ 8 ohms with a UL410-II cab, works great, this cab can handle it. Now I just got two TC-E RS210 cabs and I was thinking of trying em both for the first time at a gig ,stacked vertically.

I planned to just use either my LMII or F1 but the room may require more volume. If I don't start with the F1, its so small I carry it as my backup amp to all gigs, so I could try both on this nite.

But if I used the Crown with the HPF set @ 50Hz, might this offer me some added protection to keep the again; loud, lows outta these cabs out with this powerful amp? Now, I know I have to control the volume that goes into these cabs on my own. But wondering if setting the HPF might offer some extra protection while giggin these two new cabs first time? I play 5 string basses, so yeah 50Hz is too high, but that's the lowest the Crown offers. Any good reason to use it?

I could easily just bypass the HPF during the nite if I find its effecting my tone too much. I like how I can make amp setting changes on the fly at the front of this Crown 1500. Just set it and forget it. :rollno: Sorry :p

SoB: "Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust/update the software to allow for this?" TO SoB: this would be cool.

yeah it might be worth trying out for that setup, I been using it bridged at 4 ohms into an ampeg 210 and running it in bypass, but seeing as i am only playing the 4 stringer with that band it may be worth trying out the HPF :)

bridged 1500 into a 210 cab??? what... lol. why??????????? i doubt that cab can take more than what the 1500 puts out in stereo mode into 4 ohms. don't see a good reason to run it bridged at all into that cab. 1500 watts without a filter into a 2x10 is a very easy way to blow the cab.

I haven't played my XLS2000 live yet, but am more than happy with it in my practice sessions. I'll be using mine mostly to run stereo with my SVT-610HLF & SVT-808HE cabs.

btw, I haggled a store on eBay down to $399 shipped since they had a "Make an Offer" option.....they took it ;)

You must've missed my post. You would've got it for less with no haggling if you had called Northern Sound and Light.

Well, the haggling consisted of 2 counteroffers, so it wasn't too much work :)

I did miss your post. You saying they would have gone cheaper than $399 shipped for an A stock XLS2000?

I got an XLS 1500 from MF for $320 (20% off) just by asking fwiw. There was no sale or anything going on. Music123 (MF's sister co) often does the same thing, you have to tell them GC has a coupon active or something, many reps will deny you, just call back and get a cool one. In this economy they break the collusive manufacturers minimum pricing scam, rightly so.

Well, the actual price was somewhat lower, but with shipping, it came back at $399, so even-steven in this case. In almost every case NSL is going to have the lowest prices on pro audio gear.

I got the 1500 from NS&L for $320. Seems like they give about 20% off also. Decent deal but I feel like munjibunga has a good friend in that company or something. Comes off a little militant about the whole thing...

Nope. I don't know a soul in the company. I just hate to see my TB brothers and sisters spending too much on gear. NSL has always treated me right.

I have to agree. It is truly rare that NSL does not have the absolute lowest prices on PA amps and microphones, IME. Once you purchase from them, you are given an account number and password. You can then get their lowest price simply by putting an item into your shopping cart. Then remove the item and enter another...and so on. :)

well my XLS2000 came today,
:bassist:

First impression?

...not that loud! :hmm:

My pedals go into my Sansamp BDDI, I have that volume dimed
and the selector on "line" level and it seems I have to turn knobs up to get louder, Which I'm not a fan of.
:(

I have a 1/4" ts from BDDI into channel 1 of the XLS,
and it is set Y input, HPF (50hz)

The cab in channel 1 is a cheap 18" 8ohm cab that says
600watts

The cab in channel 2 is a GK 410SBX+ it is 8ohm and rated
for 800watts

I think I need a diff pre. I'm sure the BDDI's out v is less
than the Crowns 1.4v optimum input level.
:bawl:

any suggestions? lol

I know Munji I'll call NSL! :hiding:

As I've said a few times around here, I'm LOVING my Art Pro Channel. Plus it cranks out volume through my 1500. My RBI pushed the Crown pretty well too. Tone was just ok. Funny how a high wattage amp does not equal volume. The gain stage(s) of the pre are very important, as is the amp's sensitivity, as you've seen first hand.

I just noticed something. You're getting 375w to each cab. Bridge them for 4 ohms and you'll be seeing 2100 watts! You'll notice a difference.

When I ran my XLS1500 in IIRC, stereo/Y input, I was not impressed with the volume. Once I bridged it at just 8 ohms, big difference. So yours at 4 ohms should kill.

I rewired one end of a speakon connector to connnect to the Channel 1 for bridge. Also, I have a 3' speakon to banana speaker cable. The banana end just clips into the center as per the manual and that works fine too. When bridged I did not notice any volume fallout with anything I used as a pre.

And when I first got the amp, I had no pres yet so I tried my MB F1, LMII and VT pedal. They all gave me huge volume. OP, keep trying, don't give up on the Crown yet. One TBer had sent his back before he found the solutions here afterwards.
