I know what you mean. I picked up my Squier affinity J bass, or rather it picked me out at GC one evening at a big sale. It is metallic red and totally drew me to it. I picked up a Rumble 100 at a real good price too.
Then, a little while later, I decided to get new J pickups and was turned on to the Fender Noiseless J bass pickups by a private guitar tech that works for the GC. I contacted him privately and he ordered the pickups from Fender for me and had them installed in no time. He is a pro and said since he discovered the Fender Noiseless J bass pickups he has put them on all his J basses.
I must admit that the affinity, inexpensive bass is great sounding with the pickups and the flats. My new Ibanez
SR500 sounds super great with rounds and I picked up a set of flats for it but I think I will play the rounds for a while because they sound real good.
