Since there seems to be a hundred different threads about this unique instrument, I thought I'd go ahead and start a Ubass club. (since nobody else has). That way we can have a main thread to exchange info and attempt to answer questions instead of having info scattered all over the place. Whatcha think? anyone else in?
I'll go ahead and hand out numbers to anyone who wants one.
I hate being #1 but since I'm starting the club, I guess I'll be #1.

Technical info/FAQ pertaining to the Ubass
Here is a video about installing the polyurethane strings. Very informative.
String height/ setup
The string height spec is 4-5mm measuring from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the E string. This height gives the proper string angle/downpressure for the string to work with the pickup.
How to install a new tuner on your U-Bass 2

On the question of string longevity, Mike Upton at Kala said: "The strings won't breakdown material wise. The only thing that they suffer from is stretching. I would think that they would be fine for at least a year but could well last several years depending on the use."
He also said:"The U-Bass has Regular tension strings. We probably will release a Red and blue set next year."

A word to the wise !
This instrument has a different feel and sound from a bass guitar or anything else you may have played. Unless you are into taking chances, (some folks are) go to a music store and try one out FIRST before buying! This is a unique instrument and it will not feel or sound like your fender jazz!

Count me in! I'll be rocking mine this afternoon in Flagstaff, Arizona at the Grand Opening of the Orpheum Theater's new Stage Left Sub Shop. Can I have a number?

These pictures were taken in Honolulu, not Flagstaff

My beautiful and generous wife, who insisted on buying it for me. (Ford Island and Pearl Harbor in the background.)

I have been eyeing Bassuke.com for some time, but afraid to take the plunge based on price and the fact that it seemed like it might be hard to recoup the cost if I didn't like it. The UBass is really exciting to me. I would love to try one of these out. How is the intonation on the fretted models?

Intonation seems pretty good. Keep in mind you are pressing down on a rubber string and the higher up the neck the higher the string is off the fretboard. But IMO the strings are harder to bend out of tune than a regular bass string. Really this instrument has alot about it that is different/unique. Best thing to do is to try one out and see if you like it.

I don't think anybody knows! They're too new.My guess is, leave them on until they break or won't stay in tune. They are made of rubber so there should be no loss of brightness or tone like metal strings.

I have the fretted version. I think at that scale length good fretless intonation would be hard to achieve. YMMV.
I ordered the fretted version for that reason. Although when you mis-fret a note with the fretted version it makes a not so pleasant sound. The small scale does trip me up a bit.

My amazing wife just told me I could order one of these for an anniversary present!! I'm Ebay bidding on one right now.

How do the strings feel? Does it have two strap buttons? What kind of strap would I need for it?
Aha! The wife is a keeper eh?
The strings feel rubbery. But you'll get used to them.
One strap button. You could add another or just tie the strap up by the headstock. A regular guitar strap will work but I ordered one of these.
