On the question of string longevity, Mike Upton at Kala said:

"The strings won't breakdown material wise. The only thing that they suffer from is stretching. I would think that they would be fine for at least a year but could well last several years depending on the use."

Anybody here add another strap button to your U-Bass? I'd like to use Straploks but I'm nervous about drilling a hole, etc.

I'm using a D'Andrea classical guitar strap, the kind that goes over your head and around your neck and has a kind of hook or clip that grabs the bottom edge of the sound hole. I paid six bucks for it. Levy sells one for twice that. The u bass doesn't weigh anything, the strap is totally adequate and also works great with my concert size ukulele.

I bought one of those today as well, but I'm going to look for a leather one - I don't like the feel of the vinyl on my neck.

Count me in! I love mine. I've been gigging with it for the last couple months.

...and the only thing I changed about mine!

I just pulled the trigger! I won one of the mahogany U-Bass 2010 NAMM show samples. Apparently they were all hand selected from Kala stock so it ought to be one of the nicer ones available. I got it for $458 shipped.

It should look something like this:

My Ubass is in the shop. It needed a new tuner but they are shipping me a new one instead. (long story)
Anyway, I'm also having them install a strap button on the neck.
I'm picking it up nrxt wednesday, then I'll try to get some pics up too.

They're shipping you a new U-Bass instead of just a new tuner??

I've got one of my basses in the shop right now - I might have to have them install a strap button on the neck of my U-bass when it arrives.

yes, believe it or not. I bought it knowing that it had a broken tuner with the agreement that the store would order a new tuner and repair it. This is the spruce top model which has the non-hipshot tuners btw.
When the tuner came in, it was the wrong one. It was one of the hipshot tuners like on the mahogany models. The hipshot tuner does not fit in any shape form or way on the spruce models. So I left it there and had them order the correct tuner. A week later the store calls and says the factory isn't sure when they will be getting anymore of those tuners in, so the store talked them into getting me a new Ubass.
Today the store calls and says my new Ubass is in. I live 100 miles from the store so I old them to hold it for me because I'd be passing through there next week.
Told ya it was a long story. :smug:
