Kala Ubass Megathread, Part 1

I just bought a $340 di from them & they gave me 15% for just that reason!

Personally, I like the acoustic 'uke' waaaay more than the solidbody version. Possibly because I already have an Ashbory bass - but there's just a lot cooler aesthetic with the uke. Just my opinion!

As far as I know, all U-Basses come with either a gig bag or fitted foam case. I've been touring pretty hard with the gig bag for months - it's great (although the strap 'd' ring did come off in an airport shuttle incident, I hand stitched it back to good working order...). My uke bass has been getting jostled pretty good in overhead compartments, busses, shuttles, etc... it's even fallen out of a few parked cars. Still no damage!

Had a problem with the top D ring on the gig bag too. Got a lot of use when commuting home on the bicycle, with the bass.

I love this bass!

I have a capo I use that clamps down on the strings fairly tightly that should help me keep the string tension and making re-stringing quicker. It works for everything but my lap steel.

I've had the hollow body all mahogany U-Bass now for a few months and am really lovin it! Picked it up new for $330 with a fitted soft case and extra one year warrenty (I think they had it marked with the wrong price, all the other ones I've seen are going for well over $400 for the mahogany version.
Anyone try the solid body 5 string yet? Is it as much fun?

I don't have a UBass; I tried one at the local ukulele shop quite a while ago; now I'm considering getting one and thought I'd do my homework/research starting with this thread.

I've read up to page 35, and will finish reading the thread later. However, as a club, it's a mess.

People who requested numbers didn't get them and were skipped over. Somebody had a good idea to indicate in the numbering who got a fretless, but that was implemented only once. Now, nobody is getting their cherished club numbers, despite repeated requests from the club founder to have somebody take over the numbering.

I have no interest in taking on the responsibility of ironing out all the skipped people and the latest number requests, but I scanned quickly through the rest of the thread to see if any more numbers were handed out... and there weren't any new additions.

I have nothing but well-wishes for the club and its members; I hope someone will take the mantle and everyone who wants a number gets sorted. Meanwhile, this is where your club is at, as of page 35 (not everybody indicated which UBass they bought).

You got a great price on that one. If I could have scored a mahogany for 330 I would have done it. I paid 375 for my spruce.
