Tonight's another gig with the UBass. This time, I'm not
bringing a steel stringed instrument as a backup.
The fretless UBass is the bass, and the backup is the fretless
Ashbory.

Nothin but Thundergut. :)

Great! My ubass backup is the other ubass! Has been for a while.

I ordered ThunderGuts last month. I got a prompt email saying they would be mailed out in the morning. 15 days later I emailed them again asking what's up. They replied they got backed up and it went out Thursday. That was last week. Then Friday yesterday I emailed them again saying cancel my order please and send a refund. No answer, just a refund to PayPal. But I am pretty happy with the stocks.

Who did you order them from, Tim?

Just don't blame it on Aquila. They are outstanding to work with directly. If some dealer screwed up, then some dealer screwed up.

That would frustrate me. When I buy strings, I pretty much need them - now. A dealer that got "backed up" for 15 days
is not a worthy dealer, just someone trying to make a coupla extra bucks - occasionally and incompetently - at night.

You should consider telling us who so that we don't waste our own time with that source.

There are nuts inside and out and a cap. I had to replace my jack so i'm glad I didn't loc-tite it. Owen Holt said not to for that reason.

+1 on the avoid loc-tite if possible. I was successful in finding a wrench I could fit thru the back access hole so I could hold the backing nut while I tightened the nut on the outside. Worked fine. I also cut the strap hole a tad bigger on the end pin end so it doesn't spin the pin when the strap is moved. Between the two fixes I've been problem free for the last 4 months.

Well, the gig was a ton of fun. And I learned some things.

I learned that - it gets a little freaky feeling playing a fretless when - you Can't hear. :) Most of the night, I heard Enough, but I play in a band that likes Volume much more than I do, and at times, the stage volume can get out of hand. There were times when I really couldn't hear what I was doing, and it is not a comfy feeling on a fretless. :)

Outside of that, it was a great gig. The UBass - with the Thunderguts, of course - sounded Awesome. I had low end to spare. I could have damaged the building if I wanted to. :)

I love that bass.

The steel string is going in the closet.

SBassman: I have been a for-hire fretless bass hitman for years, and you have to tell the band AND soundman that you simply have to hear yourself or it's not going to be pretty. I just refuse to play otherwise. Last night, my own band played a huge outdoor St. Patty's event and had to have that same conversation with a veteran soundman. I don't get mad, I just won't play. I'm not at all a jerk about it, but I don't know any horn players that would play in those conditions so I won't either. Oh, and I played my Ubass on about four songs and it rocked! On a different slightly note, has any of you tried using Wi Audiolink for in-ear monitoring? I saw a guy doing yesterday. It's 150 bucks for the system, which is digital, versatile (can also be used as a 100 foot wireless system) and he was just using regular 50 dollar earbuds. I'm thinking of getting them for FOH soundcheck and personal monitoring. Thoughts?
