Oh, BTW, who's tried or using Thunderguts?
Like everyone here I want a more reliable stable string option.
My work, a Christian school, has just finished its week of retreat. I used my kala as part of a 5 song worship time on Thursday and Friday mornings. Played it through a fishman platinum pro bass and from that to my 50 Yorkville amp as a personal monitor and to the PA - sounded great. Played with 2 guitarists and 2 vocalists. So much interest from other musicians in the kala bass. Pretty sure I've sold atleast one but probably 3 of these basses just playing at this event.
I've contacted several uke luthiers to build me a 5 string version but none are willing. And I'm happy spending significantly more than what they are making on a regular uke build. A shame really, and frustrating.
first let me say, Kala & this forum's participants are some of the nicest bunch around - doesn't seem to be as much pettiness here.
has anyone bought direct from Aquila? Their website is a bit hard to navigate and obviously they're across the pond.
Kala is out of Thunderguts & I want to order at least a set for my Hog/spruce Fless (I guess I made the right choice - VERY early buyer here - about 18 mos ago)
thanks all!
Great job.
You know the Kala Cali's come in a 5 string, yes?

Yeah, I'm aware of the 5 string. Visually I want it to be an acoustic, I know they don't have much acoustic properties at all but my feeling is that I'm playing some bluegrass with an uncle, playing worship and hoping to join in some uke groups locally and an acoustic rather than the pointy solid body is a better fit. I may have to bite the bullet and own the 5 string solid body and the 4 string acoustic. I haven't really played a 4 string for about 15 years before owning this u-bass so I find it a bit limiting.
