ubassman said:OK ok I am probably putting my head in the lions mouth here - but.... I am just wondering what experience people may have with the Rlizard Bass Uklelele from Ortega? Seems to have an inbuilt tuner and volume and tone controls which is of interest - but wondering what does it play like in comparison to the U ? Seems also to retail at the same price ....but no reviews as far as I can see?

I am actually quite upset with Kala´s service.
...
The guys at Golihur told me to send a mail to Kala. That was two weeks ago. Not even a reply.
I'd pick up the phone and give them a call. Ask to talk to Ryan or one of the tech support guys. Or you can describe your problem to whoever picks up the phone, and they'll put you through. Ryan was super patient when I called, answered all my questions, and offered solutions.
Newbie question about string buzz on a mahogany Kala, fretless, acoustic-electric U-Bass. I sometimes get a loud annoying buzz while playing A# (1st fret on A string). I am new to bass so it may be poor technique. Someone suggested checking the truss rod. Does a Kala acoustic-electric U-Bass have a truss rod? Could it be a defective A string? Playing with a Fender 30 watt Rumble amp. Suggestions would be appreciated.
How's everyone doing with thundergut stickiness? I put the stock strings back on a while back because I was tired of getting powder everywhere. I love everything about the TG's: higher tension, near immediate stability, improved intonation, but the stickiness is too much. Any new remedies? (I know this has been addressed, I'm seeing if there's new information)
Thank you gentlemen.
Against many strong recommendations here to buy a fretless U-Bass, I went with my gut and ordered a Hutch Hutchinson model today. I got a great price from Sweetwater.
I've been playing for months on a friend's fretted mahogany and decided I'd rather deal with a few fret squawks than pitch issues while sightreading Jazz charts. If it becomes unbearable, I'll have the frets pulled and make it a fretless and have the side dots where I prefer them to be.
I also wanted the extra access to the upper frets, even though it's a small difference. I plan on trying it with Thunderguts and Pyramids in addition to the Pahoehoes.
I'm not a fan of buying instruments I can't play first, but with all the glowing comments about Kala's customer service, I figure that if I have a significant issue, I'll be taken care of.
It'll be a week or so before it arrives. I'll give you the rundown once I've had time to explore.
I guess I might as well go ahead and order an F-deck HPF pre since it seems inevitable.
Hey Soong was great to catch up on Saturday, shame we didn't get much time to talk. Did you get to play my fretted u-bass?

I have purchased a new Kala U-Bass via Golihur music, and now after just a few days playing, the E-strings sounds distorted. There must be something wrong with the pickup, I get the distortion with different cables, cabs and amps.
