Kala UBass Megathread, Part 5

Some of these EUBs are thousands of dollars.

My thought would be literally to take the UBass design almost as is, with the exception of the rounded fingerboard and the f holes, and bring something like that to market less than $500.
Something that still fits - in a uke case. :)

Hey guys, I just discovered the u bass online/youtube/forums a week ago and I am absolutely obsessed. I have been playing the upright in a little jazz trio for a couple years now and I am extremely excited to see what the u bass has to offer. Even if I just play with it at home and pull it out at a gig once in a while to surprise people, that would be awesome. It looks like it is a ton of fun to play. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a fretless mahogany on musicians friend tonight. They have the presidents day sale going on and 15% off order of $499 or more. That would take off 87 bucks, so not too shabby. I've searched everywhere online and it doesn't seem like any certain sites are cheaper than others with these bad boys...looks like its 550 everywhere. The oooonly thing I'm concerned about is that I still have a ton to learn on the upright and I hope that I don't just confuse myself by throwing a u bass in the mix.

In with a Kala spruce top fretted and a Tonebone Bassbone!

Welcome to the club/thread! Is your spruce top one of the new type with the new ones with the built-in preamp?
The reason I ask is that if it is an older passive type the Radial Tonebone Bassbone with a 470K ohm input impedance will not be a good match for the Kala's high impedance piezo. The Radial PZ-Deluxe Acoustic Preamp with it's 10M ohm would be a much better match (and it's $60 cheaper).

Here I am from a recent show using my guitarist's Kala. This was at a really big venue, and I ran it through my wireless and listened from way across the dance floor. It sounded great and had lots of low end. I was impressed and my back and shoulder felt great for once!

In the last few months it looks like these have been getting hugely popular. More and more people are chiming in on here, and a GC employee I spoke to the other day actually knew what a ubass was.

If it is this one:

I wonder why it is sold out of Canada and with Chile named as country of origin. In the brass world we would cry scam immediately.

Nope - that's a SUB, this is a Cali series in natural finish.

And you're right - I wouldn't touch an auction described like that with a ten foot pole, even *your* pole.

well, my ubass is being shipped back. they tried replacing the strings and said it is doing much better. Hopefully once I get it it'll be playable. otherwise it is going back for good.

lousy intonation problems.

Go figure. I see my first "scary comment" 12 hours after I order my u bass, lol. Now I'm nervous! I have such high expectations.
