Can you give me a review from your Kala Ubass bamboo please ?
I’d like to purchase one. And I want to know all about it.

Just bought it (Kala U bass bamboo), just send it back.
Too expensive for what it worth. Just like a toy. The E string is too soft .

Before sending this U bass, I took the time to give this bass a chance.
I’ve changed the way to use it and Accepted to play with soft strings.
It’s good for travel and play outdoor.

This is my first post in this forum.
I first heard about these from Bakithi Kumalo, and years later, last week, my wife bought me one for my birthday. I chose the Wanderer and immediately changed out the strings for flatwounds. I hate rounds. The next day I bought a strap.
I'm enjoying it. I intend to use it for reggae band practice in small areas. So far, I've broken it in with some reggae hits, 3 songs from Playing with Change ("La Bamba", "The Weight". and "Everyday People"), "Just my Imagination", Pink Floyd's "Money", and "Theme from Shaft". It worked great for all of them.
My other basses are both short scales (Squier Jaguar SS and Sire U5).

I got the Gallis per Stephen Cox's recommendation. For my short scales, I use La Bella Deep Talkin'.
To get the max mileage out of this thing, I might just try to find a ukulele band that needs a bass. LOL
Hey, just wondering why you didn’t go with the cheapest version the Nomad ? I am considering buying one of these, but it looks like the price often reflects the wood, does it really make a difference with these?
So I think I’m gonna get a U bass of some kind. I’m a bass player and clarinet player and I’m working with a guitar player now where I have to quickly switch to the base. I’ve been using my beetle base, but I don’t think it has the right sound. It’s a little to treble. I borrowed my neighbors fancy Kala U bass and I think I’m gonna go U Bass .
Question : are the fancier Kala models just nicer looking or do they have any different pick ups or electronics. In this video, she reviews the cheapest one for $199 and basically says it just doesn’t look as good but sounds the same.

Saw a gentleman play one of these in their "Ukulele Fun Strum" group and immediately got a case of G.A.S. Ordered one in Shell Pink, should be here next week.
This is interesting. I hadn’t thought of using a strap. But the strap you might be able to put it to the side and leave it on you and then pick up other instruments or play a piano or whatever though if I was gonna go this route I think I get the five string.… But I don’t think these solid body ones have as good of a upright base tone… From what I’ve read
It might have been appearance. I also read info from when Kala UBasses were new that metal strings were not recommended for the early models, which all came equipped with rubber strings. Just in case that hasn't yet been rectified, I played it safe and bought one that came stock with metal strings. And from what I heard, the type of wood makes little or no difference in the sound.
Check the Kala website to find out which electronics are in which basses. But to answer your question, the Journeyman (which I have) has the UK-500B electronics, where the other models just say U-Bass active EQ. I have no idea if those two are different.
This has been an interesting few weeks. I got a country gig that I needed my five string Ibanez with flat rounds. Really started to like that five string flat round set up. So looking around I think Karla has the best (most expensive at least) five string with 23.5 inch scale. I think it’s probably the shortest one I’m gonna find Using steel strings. Problem is it comes with round wounds and the five string flat round set is about 70 bucks. Anybody know if there are other brands that fit the 23.5 inch scale instrument?

Yes, they are rounds, thank the Goddess. I'm not a fan of flats.Thanks ,unless you bought it used, they’re most likely rounds.
These are worth it. I waited until Kala had a sale/discount code and got them for a bit less. I don’t recall there being many other options out there.
