Keeping amp from sliding around


I just buy heavier amps.

So I’ve been noticing all kinds of ways people are keeping the amps from sliding around on top of their cabinets. Velcro, straps, Hinges, non slip mat, foam. You name it, I’ve seen it on here.

What I haven’t seen is the idea of putting some neo magnets under the Tolex, or other cabinet covering. The adding magnets to the bottom of the amp.

This is how a bunch of companies used to do caster plates for large PA speakers and it worked great.

So anyway what do y’all think of doing the same for amps and cabinets. This would keep you from accidentally pulling an amp off a cabinet and allow for tilting cabinet back without amp sliding.

If done correctly, you would not even know they were there unless they were in use holding things in place. Just seeing what people think of the idea.
I put my DNS-210 cab on an amp stand with a fixed slant angle of 45°. I put my DNA800 amp on top of it and use a 16"x22" nonslip toolbox liner from Harbor Freight to keep it in place. My DNA800 amp only weighs 4.8-lbs, but it never slips all night long. You can cut this stuff to size with scissors because it's thin and price is only $2.99. They also have it in big rolls but this one size is more than enough for most amps.

I use a bungee cord, hooked onto the speaker cab's side handles via the top of the cab, so it's putting tension across the top.
When I put my amp under the bungee, it effectively increases the downward force of the amp on the top of the cab - as if the head was heavier.
A bungee cord doesn't weigh much, and they're a pretty handy thing to have around on gigs anyhow.

You can pick a bungee with the correct tension and made of the right material to keep most amps solidly in place.

Fender Rumble V3 series uses a combination of magnets and indentations in the top of the cabinet to hold the head in place. When I use my 500 head with the 2x10 cab, I put it on a tilt back stand and it stays in place nicely.
 
No, the concept that we developed remained with Jeff, he still uses it with the Genzler amps.

It’s not patented, I’m sure that at some point another manufacturer will do something similar and claim that they invented it first and theirs is the original. Of corse you guys will know the real story, direct from the horse’s mouth.

It is fairly expensive metalwork with some tooling and finishing cost. Maybe that’s why nobody else (that I am aware of) does this?
From checking the Genzler site, the adaptor looks like a basic sheet metal part. But, unless the OP has a sheet bender and sheet metal brake, it isn't a home project.

It is fairly heavy gauge sheet metal (the Genz Benz parts were ~1/8" brushed, anodized 6061-T6 aluminum), not something that's easily worked with (with the required precision) without a (precision) press brake.

"sheet benders" and hand brakes don't work well with thicker materials.
