Keeping your IEM volume in check

THIS. These units have ZERO headroom and go into clip very quickly.
I'm not sure why you'd want it to have more gain. I use this unit and don't have any problems.

They don't really clip, they have a limiter and will pretty much cut everything and go silent.

Since the op claims he's hurting his ears with total volume I'm guessing he's not hitting the limiter.

Yep - you have to be really careful with the PSM200 gain or the thing will go in limiting. Hey - I'm an old school weekend warrior and dropping almost $1000 (with the Westone buds) was a huge step for me just to try out IEM - I'm now a believer. I had big problems at first but those were 90% solved by a change of drummer (much better tuned drums) and more importantly - sound engineer. New engineer wanted to give me a stereo mix but he didn't realize the 200 is mono only. Drummer is wired IEM and running stereo now. Guitarist is also running PSM200 with UM30 Pro buds. Our vocalist is great - but I'm not sure she would even know the difference. She has a AT M2 system which can go stereo, some kind of custom mold buds. She hardly runs anything but vocals in her ears though, maybe a little guitar and her keys. She stands directly in front of the drum kit though, says she gets plenty of drums thought her vocal mic.

The thing with the limiter on these is one thing will start kicking it on and it will reduce the volume on everything. And I DO have issues with it hitting the limiter - sound check and everything is fine, then we start performing and the drummer hits harder, singer belts out - limiter kicks on. My overall aux level is about at unity but the knob on the PSM is barely turned up at all. My pack volume is usually around 2/3 of max.

Sound like your gain staging is off!!
Try turning down the AUX level, and increasing the PSM200 input levels (to around noon/12). Don't reduce the AUX level too much or you'll increase the noise floor, but adjust so the clip LED's are not coming on.. if they are, back off the input levels some. Tweak pack vol to taste.

How do I access the overall level for my aux using the x32Mix app on iPad? I can do everything else fine, just don't know where the overall level is!
Rotate the iPad to vertical axis.. and it will [should] display the main level..!! I'd upload a pic, but I can't do that from work!

OK- duh - I knew the iQ app for iPhone is like that, didn't know it was the same for the Mix app. I usually keep the iPad in a iKlip holder on my mic stand so will have to pull it out, but this should be a one-time adjustment.

The inputs on the PSM 200 are so sensitive - I can tell just from my experience with it I'd have to REALLY drop the aux out level to get the gain knob anywhere near 12:00.

ooops.. i lied.. thought you meant the X32-Q! but that would be what I would use to adjust output level - it's automatically tied to your output buss or AUX you are using to monitor.

If you have to use X32-mix, go to the output groups listed above the channel strip and select the buss group you are using to control the aux mix. Adjust the level of the fader in question... but I'd use X32-Q - given a choice.

Well - Q app doesn't work on iPad - and I like to use the bigger screen so I can actually see it vs my iPhone 5C. I also like the Mix interface a little better.

And it looks outstanding on an iPad Pro!

The size was worth it for these old eyes. Yup, expensive as all get-out, but I have few bills (old ratty house paid for, 11-year-old Nissan Armada, just utilities and insurance), so I can afford a few cool toys.

Sure it does. I've been running it on my gen2 iPad for close to 2+ yrs.. the M32Q app also runs on the iPad. Other band members are using the mini and latest gen iPads and they ALL run it!

I also have an Galaxy tab (android) and they run in it as well.
I'm using the Tab now, because the wireless is so-o much better than the iPad.

I could have sworn I saw that the latest version of Q wouldn't work on iPad. I see on the app store it says it's compatible though. Sorry for the misinformation. I still like Mix better though. I did find out how to set the aux level - have to go out of "sends on faders" and navigate to the aux busses.

There are parts of the X32/M32 apps (note: plural) that stopped functioning correctly when iOs 9.0 came out. Some features have stayed that way with subsequent 9.*.* iOS releases.
For example, I have issues with the apps not displaying VU metering in my iPad, but those same apps work fine on my Android tab.
