Keith Ferguson

Hey Guys,

I think it's fair to say that The Fabulous Thunderbirds were/are a huge influence on me and my current band.
Looking around on the internet for some more information on Keith, I can only really find his wikipedia entry (Invalid Link Removed) and a very nice tribute page to him (Invalid Link Removed).

Does anybody else have any anecdotes or know where I can read about some more about Keith, his life and his bass playing?

Cheers

Badass bluesman....

I read an interview with him in Guitar Player Magazine (so long ago... that was the ONLY place to get information on bassists) that included a little bass lesson. He said he started when someone showed him like three different basic patterns, and claimed his whole life was from that one five minute lesson.

Now I gotta go dig up my copy of "What's The Word" and "Los Fabulosos Thunderbirds"!!!!

Keith Ferguson was a blues monster. (Very under-rated)
Got to meet him at a T-Birds gig, in Providence RI, late 70's.
Very cool guy, huge, fat, groove.
Solid player, who locked in with drummer. (Lived to play)
Sadly, played to hard off stage too.
I read once where Muddy Waters said Keith was his favorite bassist since Willie Dixon.
One of the greats.

The same book Fender Precision Basses: 1951-1954 by Detlef Schmidt has an article on Preston's P bass also. Given to him by Clifford Antone

Keith was later 86'd from Antone's by Clifford. The p bass pretty much lived at the pawn shop. Evidently he really loved Tex-Mex Music, and played a pretty mean Bajo Sexto. Heroin tore him down and put him under. Very sad. RIP
