Keith Richards...On Bass!

Keith played bass on some of their albums, here and there, whenever Bill was not available. Mick Taylor, during his tenure, as well...he doubles on four tracks of Exile, most notably “Tumbling Dice”.
I don’t know. There was period where the Stones kept getting arrested and they did a ton of studio work and it was basically all Keith during that time.

He may have played bass on a song or two on most of the albums but Bill played the vast majority of bass when he was with them.

If you see the 1968 Goddard film One plus One you can see why Bill sometimes ended up not on a record. Mick and Keith would piss around in the studio for weeks while Bill sat around waiting and then one day when he decided not to come in, they cut a take and Keith fills in on bass and there, that's done, The song has been recorded.

Bill is an excellent blues and rock n roll bassist, he had that sound and feel down to a T, I stole riffs from these two songs without realizing it when I was a kid that I still use to this day.
Oh I totally agree! He is absolutely authentic and true to the style. I gained even more appreciation for him when I got the live "Brussels Affair" album. He was definitely on for those shows.
