Kemper DI vs SLO/RNDI DI

First of all excuse any errors. this was more of a science experiment more than anything. My levels might be off as im trying to get the hang of recording.

On the Kemper these are straight DI, I did not add any cabinets.

I was in the process of making some profiles for my Kemper so I figured might as well try to do a comparison. The Non Kemper Cali76 clip is extremely noisy, I must have done something wrong.

Bass is a 50s Vintera w/ EMG Geezers and Ti Jazz Flats

Good stuff. I thought the Kemper came pretty close to sounding like the Non-Kemper, but if I could only pick one, I'd say the Non-Kemper had a little more liveliness to it. But you could easily do tracks with either.

thanks for taking a listen. By a tiny amount I prefer the non buts it's verrry close. It could be closer but I didn't take the time to tweak the profiles. I recorded it straight after making the profile

Out of all the setups I like the ones where I used the LA-1A and the Warm WA76.

I've had the kemper for years and didn't bother making profiles. When I started playing bass the profiles available are limited so I started making my own.

nice to show up with sooooo many options. Potential problem is analysis paralysis.

I had a NUX DI show up yesterday so I'll work on that. I'll likely make some more REDDi profiles too. I made a base one with a Reddi running through a Heritage HA73 (neve 1073 clone)

In my humble opinion it is well worth it. I play guitar as well so I use it for that as well. I play in a cover band so I have all my amps and pre's available. Really easy to move through settings with a midi controller. I can even setup up to use a different profile (amp) for every song. It really is a fantastic piece of kit.

I actually use it for everything. Ive purchased some Mbritt profiles and they were great. I tend to make a lot of my own profiles. I run through a lot of gear so even though some gear has moved on I'll always have a snap shot and can recall those settings.

Works great live and for recording. When I use it live I either just go straight DI from the Kemper to FOH or ill run it through the return section on one of my amps.

The effects are fantastic actually. Im not the biggest fan of the OD's but im very picky when it comes to OD. The reverb, delays, and other effects are actually top notch.

Adding my 2 cents:
If you double on guitar and bass it's a great unit. I think the Helix is great too - but I really wanted some different amps than the usual Helix offerings for guitar, so I sold it and got a kemper.

I think purely as a bass DI - it's a lot of gear - unless you are a studio musician or have the ability to profile your own gear - or want 10 different DI samples / pres available to tweak to your heart's content.

I'm still getting to know the unit - the amps for guitar are incredible and very fun.

absolutely agree if you double as a guitarist it's almost a no brained

it's awesome for bass too though. Especially the people who go through a lot of pres and dis. Even with the gear gone you can always have a snapshot of the tone you enjoyed.

getting the midi controller and really see diving into effects and eq really unlocks this unit

I mainly use this for recording and rarely gig it. I wouldn't hesitate to use this at a gig though. I've done it before and was pleased.
