Ken Lawrence Bass - WOW!!

Just picked up a used Ken Lawrence Associate 4 string off of TB'er CosmicEvan...
Wow - what an amazing bass, I swear it is the nicest feeling and playing neck I have ever felt (and based on my GAS the last few years is a pretty bold statement)
I am really excited - maybe this bass will be the ONE
That's the reaction I had when I first tried them at a place in Toronto called Club Bass. That's the only time I've seen or heard Ken Lawrence basses up close.

To all the owners that have posted just curious what are the prices of Ken's basses new? Kind of hard to find information out and you never know....I may buy another some day

saw that you just sold it...so i guess you took the plunge on the CT? you won't regret it...NOTHING beats a CT (IMHO)
Oh man, I used the "F" word when I saw that, and I never saw a 6'er that I liked, but that is hawt!

Let me just say that Ken is the absolute best luthier to work with. He not only is probably the best luthier in the world, he is a working musician who can play the instruments he builds. I'm fortunate enough to live only a 4 hours drive from him. I brought a Washburn AB-35 acoustic to him to set up and do fretwork, that bass turned out amazing after he was done with it. My new chamberbass 6 was a bass I bought off of ebay with shipping damage and cracks in the bass. Turns out this bass was from an old dealer that ripped Ken off and never paid him for the bass. Ken not only made this instrument like new for me, he did for barely nothing. Ken's shop is smaller than most of your bedrooms. He does everything himself. Sell everything you have and buy a Lawrence! No, I am not endorsed by Ken

I just talked to Ken yesterday, he didn't go to namm this year for the first time. He is busy enough as it is. The good news is he is finally going to have a web site up soon with a gallery of his basses!
I'll say it again.....there just isn't a better builder out there. I'm very happy with the builder that I have a good relationship with....very happy, but I dream of owning a chamberbrase 6 string someday. One of the few basses out there in that price range that I feel the quality you get is worth the price paid.

Hey Andy, I think you should check out my 33'' scale R bass I've been thinking about selling. I saw your GAS list!
I was looking for one of those for a while actually, but Ray likes to make 'em with wider spacing than I prefer at the bridge. I'm having my friend and more than competent luthier Brian Ristola make me a 33" scale 6 with 16.5mm string spacing. It should be a real beauty....Kent Armstrong dual coils, ACG preamp, Cherry wood body/top. I love Brian's basses a great deal. I'm very lucky to know him.....when it comes to chambered basses though....noone does it like Ken. Beyond his woodworking skills he really has an eye for beauty.....and they play better than most every bass I've ever had the pleasure to play. One day!
Yeah, this is full string spacing. I'm probably going to keep her anyhow. The low B kills every bass I've owned, I don't know how with the shortened scale, but some just have it!
