Most people dont know but Stanley occasionally has played Ken Smith basses in the studio. Like on this track:
The Ken Smith tone is really unmistakable.
Not sure if it's a Smith on the actual track, but white boy is rocking what looks to be a 6 in the music video! Great tune.
He musta thought it was white boy day - is it white boy day?!

Freddie Washington played a Ken Smith on this track. He got a nice Motown feel to my ears.
A local band called me up on stage to play a song and the bassist played a Ken Smith. Was not my thing. Neck felt like a baseball bat. User had heavy gauge strings on it. Whew! I got outta there after that 1 song! LOL. Sounded good though.Really can’t thank all of you enough. Keep em comin.
Still have yet to ever have a Smith in my hands, but this is the sound I’ve heard in my head all along.
Yes it does, but in that interview that was posted in basses, Freddie says he used his Smith. He was probably just using the neck pickup.Sounds like a P-Bass to me.
Interesting. I’ve not come across that the necks were thicc. Maybe specific years?A local band called me up on stage to play a song and the bassist played a Ken Smith. Was not my thing. I think the bass player is John King playing one with Dave Weckl and the STL Groove Contingent:
I was referring to the Womack and Womack song.Yes it does, but in that interview that was posted in basses, Freddie says he used his Smith. He was probably just using the neck pickup.
Fred Hammond (famous gospel artist and renowned bass player) used to always alternate between his Smith and his jazz bass on his studio albums. In this song in particular (from the "In Case You Missed It... and Then Some" album), he is playing his Smith and it sounds glorious!
