The drummer was Mickey Jones. You might remember him as the drummer in Doyle's band in Sling Blade.

Kenny Rogers when he was a rocker

I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. Talented smart and very successful. Talk about a jobbing bassist that made good! I have an old friend that was Kenny Rogers touring drummer. He kept that gig for decades.
He used to play jazz. There’s videos on YouTube of him playing upright in “light jazz” performances.

At the time, the Telecaster bass was the (only) re-issue of the original 50s slab SCPB (and I believe Fender's 1st ever "re-issue").
At 1st I assumed it was a 1st year Telecaster Bass (and matching guitar) - since the video's from 1968, and it's got a 2-hole tug bar...
But I can't make out the logo, the pickguard has the original 50s (7) hole pattern, and those kind of look like long stem tuners - so I thought it might possibly be an original early 50s P-Bass.

UPON FURTHER REVIEW:
An early ad for the Telecaster Bass shows it with the 50's 7- hole pcikguard pattern. Every one I've seen in the wild had an 11-hole pickguard.
SO; most likely a very early Tele Bass....

I never realized until now how sophisticated this song is. What a flawless performance. Those harmonies and stops and modulations are bulletproof. And Kenny is so solid singing and playing bass like a boss. I have aspirations to sing and play bass and this is gold.
I’ve seen pictures of him with an older sunburst single coil P bass like Sting plays.

must have been 1968 (?): my band (regionally popular with a record deal, columbia records) was hired to play a bride/wedding show at the fairgrounds. we assumed we were the headliners. our manager had to peel us from the ceiling after the first edition showed up to load in (they were transporting in a station wagon, too ) and he informed us that the first edition was headlining the show! 
but it all worked out, we got along with them really well --- they had to be nice/friendly as they needed our backline and PA --- and we shared the dressing room, stories about touring a record...and other stuff! 
i worked with him (as kenny rogers, the star) and others on a show ~20 years later. talented cat!

Hmmm, judging from your avatar picture I'm seeing a strong Kenny Rogers resemblance.
Maybe I'm just envious of the voluptuous beard?

you know, i've been compared to several bearded celebrities over the years (all men ) depending on the length and color of my beard. but i definitely went through a "kenny rogers phase" for a while --- at least in the eyes of others.According to Wiki, First Edition started in '67; the Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo was '68; Music from Big Pink was '68; so rather than "rocker" in the sense of Robert Plant or Pete Townshend, I'd say Rogers was one of that first wave of "country-rock" style.
Got to see that show every week on TV. Live...not lip-sync. nice original 50s P bass too.
Kenny was not a hard rocker, but he always had a cool factor.

Glad you saw the lighthearted side of that. My measly attempt at a goatee would never grow to that even if I never shaved again in my life. The only "good" part of the 2020/2021 mask mandates was that I could mostly hide the embarrassingly slow rate at which my facial hair grew.
