Rush has some iconic, challenging bass lines, like from YYZ or La Villa Strangiato.

Pretty much any later years Beatles McCartney isn't just holding down the rhythm, he's also doing counter melodies on the bass.

As RickBlair said, you can't go wrong with James Jamerson. I'll add in Donald Duck Dunn as well. Ditto Led Zep, Cream, and other blues rock bands of that era.
