got a 3 1/2 year old and she is everything to me, before her I did not want to have children, and the reasons are still there, but my girlfriend force this upon me, and I cannot thank her enough. I got a 17 y/o as well, but living a few tousands miles from me so I don't see her that often, but she is a wonderful young woman and I know she'll make me very proud, I am proud of her now.

I am terrified of having kids. My "me" time would officially end for the rest of my life.

I have a hard enough time keeping tabs on my new dog, and he's a really good dog.

It doesn't end, it simply changes it. For my father (ex-military), his "me time" came early in the morning as he wakes up at 5am every day. Since I can't get up nearly that early, my "me time" comes at night after my wife and son go to sleep. Also, I get some "me time" on the weekends if my wife takes my son to go see her parents or whatever. My "me time" hasn't ended for life, it just had to be adapted.

I wanted kids for a long time... but stories like that girl suing her dad for punishing her... and seeing how my younger generation acts now (not even that much younger. 2-3 years even sometimes) and treat their elders and superiors.. not so much.

I hear horror stories from my mom, who works as a bookeeper at my elementary school. She occasionally fills in as secretary and cant believe the kind of attitude kids show her, they think theyre ARE superior.

Ive also seen a steady downfall in overall attitude in kids just reffing my loca basketball league for 6 years.

Without getting to crazy about political reasons (the future is getting scary) or social situations, lets just say im sliding down to the undecided category.

Excerpted from this thread a few years back about my son and my 87 MIJ black Jazz with Rosewood. This is one
of those scenarios that you will never get to live out
if you are childless. Another Thor story...

I got this bass 4 weeks ago, a MIJ 87 Jazz.

Last night, when I came home from work at 8
o'clock and after I made dinner for everybody,
my son the Ivy rock star appeared from his room.
He keeps college student on vacation hours, 9PM
to whenever. So off I go to grill him a steak,
and while I'm working in the kitchen, I hear
weird noises coming from his room. I never go in
his room, as I am afraid what may crawl out. I
don't even open the door, because something
strange might fall into the hallway.

Anyway, the noise changes, and there's this
*thumping*. For a second, the noise sounds like
that Les Claypool song, David Markalay or
whatever the name is. Then there is this
squealing, so I realize he is screwing around
with a guitar, I think.

'Hey, is that my bass in there?!!?'

'Yeah dad'

'Whaddya doin' with my bass?'

'You said I could use it!'

'I never said that! When?'

'When I asked you last night!'

'You never asked me! When was that?'

'Oh, around 3 o'clock' (AM)

Apparently, I had fallen asleep in front of the
TV, and he woke me and asked me to use the bass.
Yeah, I remember that! He took my comatose
grunt and defined it as a 'Yes'. It then
disappeared into the Dark Hole.
His Room.

Much to my dismay, I realized he was now playing
it thru his multi-effect processor with a SLIDE.
What really pissed me off was that he sounded
good.

'Hey, that's MY bass!'

'Dad, YOU HAVE THREE BASSES!' Can't I use ONE!'

Oops. I lent the Burns Bison to my best friend so his
son could take lessons. And there is NO WAY he
is using my 63 Eb3 Gibby!

'Errrrrr, I guess so!'

So I wake up this morning, and get ready for work.

Now he is playing 'It's No Secret' by the
Airplane. Dang kid sounds like Casady, too.
This really scares me.

Something tells me it is evaporating when he
goes back to college next week ...

---

Kids got a great ear, though his taste is
bizarre. The first song he learned on the
guitar was 'Peaches in Regalia' by FZ.
Nothing else would do.

Here's another shot.

Got himself a haircut, no prompting from me,
though.

He looks uncannily like Jack Casady here.
Maybe it's the round shades. He's
sure diggin' on this bass.

Tomorrow, is J day. I have to pack the car to
take him back to school. Maybe the car will
be full !!!

(He didn't take it with him...)
---

Well, it's now official, the bass is gone.
BassHog called his mom the other
night and it went like this with her brokering the
deal:

BassHog 'Ask Dad if I can use one of his basses..'
Mom " He wants to use one of your Basses'
Thor ' Which one?'

BH 'Well, he has 3, so any one ...'
M ' Any one, you have three! '
T ' Well, he can't have the 63 Gibson ...'

BH ' He gave the Burns to KS [best friends son]
to use for lessons...'
M 'You gave your friends son one, can't YOUR
OWN SON HAVE ONE? '
Thor: uuuuuuuuhhhhhhh

BH 'Tell him it's his own fault for exposing me to it.
And I'm starting a band!'
M 'You can drop that one downstairs off Tuesday
when you see him, ...'
Thor ' This is going downhill rapidly ... Uuuuuuh, OK...
I guess I'll let him use the Jazz.

I knew it!

That was last week.

I called up to check on my bass, I mean my son, and
said, 'So you been playing ...'

BH ' Yeah, I was just playing along with a record'
Thor 'Yeah, what record?
BH 'Herbie Hancock, Thrust '
T 'You don't think you might want to start with
something easier'
BH ' It wasn't THAT hard, Paul Jackson is the bassist,
I can't play it quite as fast as him, but I can do the
line. Then, I got that Funky Feel for when I do
something simple. '

At this point I nearly went into cardiac arrest
in my car. I have sired a monster!

I wonder where week 2 of using my bass will
bring him ...[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The final edit.

The young fellow decided that he wanted a bass
for his birthday in April 2004.

He got a good jazz bass. :bawl:

I'm undecided. Maybe indifferent is a better word. Currently I'm 31 and once again newly single, so I'm not sure when I'll even get married let alone have kids. When I was 25 the only woman I've ever really loved got pregnant and we got engaged, but she miscarried and things fell apart after that. But at the time, I was fine with the idea of having a kid.

Now? I don't know. I'm certain I'd be a good father, but teaching teenagers for 7 years made me realize how much of a struggle it often is to raise kids as they get older. And don't even get me started on middle school age kids. From about 12-14 kids should be locked in cave IMO.

And having friends with children who have serious impairments (deafness, autism, down's syndrome) I honestly don't know if I'd have the strength to deal with it, though I'm sure they all said the same thing before their children were born.

We'll see. As I said, at this point I'm just very indifferent.

I love kids and have been teaching them for like 19 years. Still, I never expected (or wanted) to be a stepmom. THAT has been the hardest thing ever! Having your husbands Ex in your face all the time, calling and showing up, and having to coordinate things. It's like a fart that never leaves.

Plus, I'm a tough, no-nonsense kind of person. Stepdaughter does (or used to do) all sorts of things that I don't tolerate in MY home! But it's been totally fun, and she's enjoyed the sense of structure I provide. Plus I had my moment of pride when she won 1st place at the State Gymnastics Meet. But also a moment of sadness when she chose to take guitar lessons (like daddy) instead of bass lessons. She said guitar is cooler because it has more strings, but I said "yes, but my strings are bigger!"

I'm looking forward to having kids "of my own." I'm not looking forward to pushing a bowling ball out of pea-sized opening.

I was 30 when I got married and 35 when we had out first son. Now I wonder why I waited so long. My son is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. We also have a daughter on the way, any day now actually, and being a dad is one of the best feelings I've ever felt. My son is an actual mini me. Our baby pics are identical. He's so awesome I can't even explain how awesome he is. Right now he's upstairs taking a nap, along with my pregnant wife. I can't wait until he wakes up so I can play with him again.

I have two cats, I throw a 20lb bag of food on the basement floor monthly, when they drag the empty bag up the stairs I buy more.
They drink out of the toilet, they leave me alone when I want to be alone and I leave them alone when they want to be alone.

...man I'd be a terrible parent.
I'm sticking with the cats
