I dont know about the whole kid thing. I like kids, I truly do (probably due to the fact that I am still one of them, only bigger), but I dont think I'll be having any of my own. I have 3 great nieces ages 12, 8, and 3, and my girlfriends roommate has a 3 year old that is a blast to horse around with. That's enough children for me.

Fact is, I was due to be a father. It happened unexpectedly, in a pretty new relationship. I was "in love" as they say. We planned on getting married and all that. At 6 months my girlfriend went into premature labor. Our son was born at 10am on July 13th 2007. He was tiny, and not healthy, and it brought tears to my eyes. I knew when I first saw him that he wasnt going to make it, though I had hoped and prayed that he would, even brought myself to believe that everything would be okay. He passed away early the next morning in my arms. This was seriously the most difficult experience Ive ever had to live through. I was left sobbing for days on end.

That relationship fell apart a little more than a year later. Now Im dating an awesome girl who says she doesnt want to have kids, and Im definitely okay with that.

Very interesting thread. As a young man with no life experience except the twenty years of being a kid that I have lived, I must say that one of my life goals is to raise a family. (and every thing that goes with it)

I come from a family of five boys. I could not imagine not having all of em around throughout the day. Me, I want a family with lot's of children. But I know to wait until I have at least a job, future, so on so forth. It will probably be a few years.

I find it painful to hear when people say children are a burden, and the ones who want all parenting to be the states job makes me angry. When parents don't take care of their children and let them get away with every thing it makes me angry. When parents abuse, neglect, and hurt their children I want to scream.

That being said, I respect others decision not to have children. Raising a kid (as far I I can tell) takes the parent(s) both cooperating together to teach, raise, guide, and learn from. If someone is not able to do so, than a decision not to have children is very understandable in my eyes.

I'm 24 and I have a carrot garden out back...:D

Jokes aside,I envy the fathers who walk with their daughters.
Besides all the evil in me,the whole ***hole I am,there's a father of a lil' girl in me.I never forget the pic. of Pacman and his daughter hugging when he was back from Iraq.
I may be seriously bada$$ but when it comes to daughters, things change...:smug:

Speaking of daughters, I have this one recurring dream where I am sitting in a park and I am surrounded by six of my little girls. They're playing at a playground the whole time and asking me hundreds of questions. I answer all the questions and sit on the park bench watching them the whole time.

:help:

Yeah, I forgot that option and lowsound's "undecided" option. My bad.

EDIT: If a mod can add those I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

2 more poll options added, you guys who didn't vote, now you can. If anybody voted and wants to change their vote to one of the new options, send me a PM, telling me what you originally voted, and the option to which you would like it changed.

Some days, one or both of my kids will make me think 'What was I thinking???' but most days, being a father is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. I just wish I had done some things different, but I think most of us who are parents feel that way.:hmm:

Thank you sir. :)

I want little versions of me running around for sure but I REALLY don't want to go through with the whole being preggo, giving birth, and especially the healing after...

That and being tied down for the next 20 or so years to a kid is not what I'm looking for right now. Sure when the time comes I'll probably think, "I wouldn't want to be doing anything else..." but not being able to pick up and just go on a trip and go travelling and play whenever I want to sucks.

Giving birth and healing my body is still a very unattractive idea.

The study (and i can't seem to find it right now, but i know i read the findings abstract) that said that those with children, married or not, experienced a dramatic decline in overall perceived happiness, keeps me from spreading my seed.

self-centered spoiled brat of a child I may just be, but you will never have to stand in line at the grocery store and have my child throw something at you or be vomited upon (both true, and gross, stories)

I have a five year old son and he is by far the most important thing in my life. It's funny. I've always been pretty detached with life, but this love I have for my son operates at some kind of deep biological level. I still play a lot of music, surf (when my foot gets better), and still have most of the same passions I developed in school. Wifey wants another, I do not. My son has a really cool, laid back personality, with a real fun sense of humor. Part of my reasoning for not wanting another child is simply because I love the life and lifestyle I have now, and I don't have any desire to disturb it. Not to mention the fact that I don't think I could afford to maintain it with two kids.

I think I want kids, but I'm scared ******** of them.

I'm such a bastard hellraiser I don't wanna see my spawn.

:ninja: Not so much of a hellraiser as a hippie who listens to too much metal and parties too much. My friends are all mostly pot smokers if not that they're smoking cigarettes or drinking. I don't know what type of father I'd be. I feel like I'd either be too lenient and let them get away with a lot or a control freak like my grandfather(He schedules what to do on vacation). Then I get told by some people when(IF) I become a dad, I'd do great.
I was always starting fights and such with my mom growing up(Dad left, divorced, and remarried my current step-mom[wacked out chick who hates my lil' sister]). I don't know if I'd be able to put up with that as well as my mom did if my spawn/demon seed did what I did then.

my wife has just done a pregnancy test this morning and we've found out she might be pregnant. I scared and a bit thrilled. I'm 31 and still don't feel ready but I guess one never does.

I remember, whilst being in a previous relationship, having been horrified at the thought of having kids. They always struck me as annoying and never felt any paternal feelings. Things changed after meeting my wife. I think that being in a good relationship does tend to change things as does age.

Tomorrow we'll do another test just to be sure. Any advice from experienced fathers?

If it turns out that she is pregnant, then there are a few things that you should know - #1 you will see more poop, pee and vomit than you ever have before, #2 the ability to get a good night's sleep will become a distant memory, #3 the first split second that you see your child, you will experience feelings that you never knew you were capable of, #4 it doesn't matter how you felt about kids in the past. It's completely different when they're your own. Other people's kids may still annoy you but you will love your own with all your heart. #5 if you've been considering buying a certain bass, amp, etc, for the love of god BUT IT NOW before it's too late. #6 you will enjoy seeing your wife go from "wife" to "mom" it's great and fun to watch.

Never, ever. I cannot express how much I hate babies and small children. And large children. And teens. If at 60, I could adopt a 30 year old willing to support me in my old age, I MIGHT consider having children.

I am acually considering getting a vasectomy to avoid any unplanned crotch-monsters.

Ironically, guys who say that are the ones who usually end up with their 2 1/2 kids packed into a minivan on their way to coach little-league baseball :)
