I've followed ALL of John's bass players for years (the Kee family are pretty close to my folks, so that's natural here in Central VA)

John ALWAYS has a nice Bass player, BUT, my favorite of ALL of them would have to be Maurice Fitzgerald ... Straight NASTY! He went on to play with Kim Burrell and now he's with Fred Hammond ...

And we ALL know you gotta be straight Sick to play for the baddest gospel bassist that ever hit the stage! FH!

I'm pretty sure Alan Evans is playing for Fred right now. The last artist I saw Maurice with was Andrea Crouch, but he is always hitting with someone. I know he is also working with his own group the Mo Fitz project.

That looks like a great example of technique and influences being more important than technique because if I had not seen that he was playing a Fender, I would have sworn he was playing a Ken Smith.

Hummh....I def would NOT have said Ken Smith. I've owned a few of the BT Customs both 5 and 6 and their slap tone is not even in the same ballpark for me. I have had about 8 Fender Custom Classic Jazz basses and those with the maple fingerboard are most sick sounding of all. These models are discontinued now. I still have (2) 5 strings. They cut better than ANY bass I have played IMHO.
