KMA Machines Tyler Deluxe

As far as I can remember from college signal processing days, there are significant barriers (as in, laws of physics) to building a proper 24db/oct pedal in the analog world. Digital in your DAW is possible and that's often what production uses. Hence the common 12db in pedals. What FDeck does may not quite work the way you describe, but I'm not qualified to understand or explain this anymore, gone digital professionally for the past 20 years :) Maybe someone else can drop some education on us.
The simplest filter slope has a slope of 6db/octave. Steeper slopes are created by cascading multiple filter circuits one after the other. Fixed filters use resistors while adjustable filters use potentiometers. The difficulty in making steep adjustable filters is that they require stacked or multi-gang potentiometers with multiple resistive elements combined onto a shared dial shaft. It is difficult to source multi-ganged potentiometers with suitably tight tolerances to meet performance expectations. Sine effects makes an adjustable 24db/octave filter however in general they're not very common. It is much easier to make steep non-adjustable filters. They can be made "semi-adjustable" by using interchangeable SIP resistors. Xkitz electronics makes a 24db/octave 3-way hifi crossover with interchangeable resistors like that and old Crown power amps had crossover modules with similar interchangeable resistors.

I've been patiently waiting for an update...
I apologize for keeping you waiting, my friend.

The thing is that I broke my thumb in the beginning of July. So I have not been able to play my bass ever since.

I spent my free time learning bass parts on keyboards in order to be able to make it through scheduled gigs.

As soon as I am able to play bass, I will rearrange the pedalboard with Tyler and report back.

Hey all - I’ve been intrigued by the Tyler for some time as I love the idea of playing with sounds in the different frequency ranges…however one piece of info I can’t seem to discern from all the review videos (most just gloss over it) are what the hp cut / loop cut switches are for and how you would use them in practice. Similarly I get the activating the pedal as a whole but when would you only activate one of the 2 loops via that loops foot switch?

Are they used to primarily dial on sounds in each loop and not really after? Or do you all use them regularly in day to day use?

From reading the manual, it sounds like with the “cut” switches you have the option to keep clean low-passed or high-passed signals on each side when you bypass the corresponding FX loops with the footswitches or have it cut that signal completely when you bypass the loop with the footswitch. Knowing that I could just use the footswitches to bypass the FX loops without cutting the corresponding filtered signal makes the footswitches seem far more useful to me

I have yet to use the Tyler (it's new to me)...but I plan to use the cut switches...and I plan to use the pedal with only one of the loops activated (sometimes).

I can't support it with personal experience yet but I can already think of several ways how to utilize these functions.

I will report back once I will be able to try them...

The filter circuits are useful for only sending parts of the frequency spectrum to each loop. I use this to send lows like 150-100hz and below to a compressor and high like 750hz and above to a distortion and chorus. That gives me a super clean low end and nice sizzling distortion on the high end with a big mid scoop that I like. If you don't want a mid scoop then you might be better off with the Great Eastern Effects XO. I personally need the scoop for my style (metal).

thanks for the response! The main part of my confusion though is when would you ever turn off one of the two loops with the specific foot switch for that loop? I assume if you disengage the low pass loop with the foot switch you will end up with only 1/2 the signal, and conversely if you disengage the high pass loop as well. Are those foot switches useful in day to day use?

the mini switches you asked about allow you to use the footswitches to just bypass the FX loops without bypassing the clean signal sent to them (or conversely you can choose to have the footswitch cut off the entire frequency band, though like you I don’t see a purpose to that), so you aren’t cutting out any part of the signal.

The possibility to cut off one of the loops gives one the choice to use the Tyler as an ordinary looper switcher. With the range of 20Hz-3kHz, the loops can be considered “full range” -at least for bass. I can imagine somebody using the Tyler to get individual pedals in and out of the signal chain without using the filters to cut part of the frequency spectrum.

Yes you are right- as someone who doesn’t own the Tyler I forgot that you could set the loops for full-range operation, in which case I could definitely see more applications for the individual bypass switches. In application with full-range parallel loopers I tend to find volume issues when completely bypassing parallel loops, but can’t speak to how the Tyler might compensate for that (or it might be a useful choice at times).

I personally would probably never switch off the low loop however I would potentially switch off the high loop if I wanted to turn off my distortion and chorus effects at the same time rather than try to hit both of those individual pedal foot swtiches simultaneously.

Correct. When one needs clean tone, it's easier to hit one footswitch disengaging the whole FX loop than to try to disengage every single pedal in the loop...
