Kmi softstep + ???module??? For cello/string sounds

So I did a bit of midi virtual instrument work on our new album. Most of it is really simple and I'm thinking I might be able to pull off a lot of the string parts live with the softstep. Curious if anyone still using them. How are they holding up? And if anyone knows of a good sounding small module that I could maybe mount under a pedalboard mainly looking for realistic sounding strings.

Here is some of the material I'd use it for like I said most of it is super simple.

Hmmmm, sounds interesting. Will it run on an iPhone 6? I have a 6 now and plan to get the 8 when it comes out. Wouldn't mind using my 6 for that instead of trading it for $50 or whatever. What kind of connection kit would you need to do that?

Yes.. The iPhone 6 Works just fine for something like this.. You just need an original Camera Connection Kit USB-lightning and maybe a powered USB hub to avoid draining the iphone's batt

thanks, checking out different apps now. Wasn't digging the Alina strings. Sounded more like synth brass than acoustic strings.

yeap. Alina Strings Ensamble emulates the Solina Strings Ensamble, For acoustic strings... hmmm .i'm not sure.. but i'm sure there are a few good apps for that kind of sounds

Have a look at Garageband or IK Multimedia Sampletank. Both free (sampletank has a limited free and paid upgrade version).

Well, you could certainly use a MIDI foot controller like the Softstep to play those notes, but (and as much as I dislike playing with them myself) it may be simplest to play to a backing track.

I've used phrase sampler pedals in the past like the digitech jamman stereo as a sampler with its own DI to cover certain stuff. It works for piano parts, and is great for sound effects and stuff. Basically sounds that have a distinct attack or really short samples. The problem with strings is they often don't have a really distinct attack and it makes it hard to stay on time with and we really don't want to get into playing with a click or any of that. We also want to have the freedom to extend parts or stop mid song live and talk to the crowd for a second before playing the rest of the song.
