I just got my Factor back from Mike Haney. He did an amazing job. He completely rebuilt the bridge. New gears and all.

Interesting thread twist. I’ve never really thought about or factored (no pun intended) in the amount of time devoted to or units produced during the whole progression of the instrument Phil or FCS. Different scale/neck is huge in terms of production.

Carla Kubicki would definitely have the best answer to that question. Anyone can email her.

Here is a table I compiled of Factors made by Phil/Fender. From my image collection, he did not differentiate the Factor vs. Ex-Factor basses on the headstock, so who knows if he otherwise kept track. In the later years, basses were sold with older dates or current dates on them, so it's a little tough to keep track, but this should be pretty accurate, as it's based on mostly photographic evidence of serial numbers.

Average retail price seems low - as far as I knew Factors were in the $2,500 range.

Tom I wanted to refer you to the Kubicki FB Page. There’s a gentleman with an exotic top that claims to have a ExFactor with a serial number 3 or 4 greater than the “assumed” final one that’s listed on your chart. Definitely an interesting conflict I wanted to make you aware of. I had a brief back and forth with him.

Thanks, I stand corrected - when I bought my first '86 Ex-Factor in 'late '93, I called to find out more about them and himself Phil answered. (frankly I was expecting a secretary or front desk person) In our conversation he asked what I paid for it ($750) and when I told him he said; "I'd have bought it for that!" For whatever reason I thought they sold new for much more and at that moment hoped for his sake they would eventually be worth more, like the way vintage Fender's gained value/worth. Well, that's the case now as they are regularly posted for sale over $2k. What do the new ones cost?

Which group? I'm on both. I've seen a couple instances of Phill providing either pre stamped necks with older dates, out of sequence. So it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if there were earlier made necks put on later basses.

I have #3759 12 12 it’s a Spalted Maple. When I was at Mike Haney shop there was one left. It was a Mahogany exotic. That one may the highest number. Just not sure.
