Kubicki club, part 2

I had a FCS Kubicki in that Sonic Blue colour - not a blue person generally but I liked that shade. Mine was a bit more 'road-worn' but still played/sounded great.

This one is an '89 'real' Kubicki. It's the third nicest one I have ever seen used. The first two were bought by an internet friend and shipped to my house to send overseas. Those two looked totally unplayed. I have a dark metallic blue that is quite nice, but not even this nice.

Dino Flintstone purple. It was refinished very early on in its life. That and the Sky blue one are my two main players.

There was a salmon (lighter than your DFP) but only a few were sprayed in that colour. Phil said it was a late 50's Desoto colour.

I played the blue one at the shop and loved it. I tried to get Phil to sell it to me but he said he had to much into it and didn't want to sell it.

Anybody own a new Kubicki, since they are building them again? Curious as to how they compare to the original ones. They look amazing on the current website. Thought about ordering one sometime- would really like to have a 5’er built someday, if possible.

Really, they are producing them again? Do you have a link? The biggest cost was the tuner-bridge. I wanted to buy one at one point (as they were on his list of items to buy, $500 I think) but Phil only had so many to finish up commissioned Factors. He told me he wasn't going to reorder them.

It says they will build Exfactor 4 strings on a made to order basis. Still very excited to see this! I play 5’s, I sent them an email inquiring if building a 5 would be a possibility sometime. Really nice to see Phil’s legacy continuing since his unfortunate passing away.

Mike Haney’s building them. Who else? In conjunction with Carla and Jewel. Yeah. Pricey. Quality is going to be top notch and spot on. Mike would produce nothing less. He’s proven himself as the sole accredited Kubicki restoration person.

The blue looks very cool - softer than the reversed burst's then. It's also cool you can buy the pre's -

As it goes these days, an Ex-Factor will set you back a chunk of change. If you want the sound/tone of a Factor, a Fender Jazz Plus from the early 90's will get you there. It has the Fender/Kubicki 9v version pre so one less passive setting and 9v battery, but I've owned both and actually prefer the 9v pre. They go for around a grand and are quality basses - the top tier below FCS at that time. Doesn't have the awesome drop-D capo though...

Thanks for the link .... I've found a few that are currently for sale for less and one in particular with the seller willing to come down closer to the $2,400 mark .... I'm just having a difficult time trying to justify another
$2000 - $3,000 bass purchase without selling something off first.

This is the only reason why I just put my custom Fodera P bass up for sale here on TB ... I'd consider the right Kubicki as a trade option ... As mentioned in the ad.

Speaking of comparing the two .... Here's a fantastic example:

An interesting comparison (by a good player) but the Fender appears to be a later active model with their own pre. Sounds good but as you can hear when the Factor is being played - it's massive in a way that only a Factor pre is. I can hear/distinguish that pre with eyes closed.
