Well, that is unhappy news. He was a great guy---I had many good phone conversations with him---he always gave you as much of his time as you could take. He will be sadly missed.

Oh no! That is really sad news. I also spoke w/him numerous times and he was always generous w/his time and ear. I'd hope to visit w/him in Santa Barbara when I learned he had moved to the east coast. We talked for awhile on the phone about my new gilding business and he gave me some good advise and encouragement.

A great man who did so much to expand the parameters of our instrument of choice. Best to his family. Long live the Ex-Factor bass.

So sad! I can't believe it. Phil was such a wonderful guy, he always took the time to talk with me and would always answer his phone the few times I called him. I have a mint 1992 canary yellow factor bass, I never wanna sell it now. I wonder if Phil had passed the torch on to another luthier/ friend, or is the Exfactor a piece of history now, never to be made again?

When I heard he moved to New Hampshire, I thought a visit to him this summer might be possible, since I occasionally make it to near New Hampshire---it would have been an easy side trip. I wanted to meet the man I talked to quite a bit and made me my custom bass in 2007. Goes to show you, one shouldn't put things off. Now I'll never have the chance to meet one of the greats. Condolences to the family.
