Kustom 200 dead channel

My new to me tuck and roll 200 head has a dead channel.

Is it worth having fixed?

Any suggestion before taking to th tech?

I had two, and the cost of troubleshooting was higher than getting a replacement.
I still use the 2X15 cab though.

Do you think you will ever need that channel ? If so, then get it fixed. But, it's gonna cost you, if the tech can even find the schematic. OTOH, did you know the channel was'nt working when you bought it ? If not, the seller's got some splainin' to do !

those are pretty simple preamp circuits in that amp. any good tech should be able to fix it at a reasonable price.

I'd at least try the De-Oxit pot/jack/switch cleaning myself first. While you're in there, look/sniff around for any bad connections, obviously burned residtors, leaking caps, etc. That much you can do yourself. If that doesn't get it running, meh, you're not out much, can always use the cleaner on other stuff.

I have a '71. I prefer the "bright" channel, with the bright switch-on. When I engage the "bright switch", the channel dies.

A reputable amp repairman here said he go all though mine; returned to full power @ $200. If I was gigging her, I would do it , but as she currently gathers dust, I will hold off.

Seriously, if $$ in not an issue; say around $100-$200, then it repairing it would probably make it good for another 40 years or so.

be careful not to shock yourself while poking around inside of the amp - drain the caps and etc first

Also wile looking for plain jane problem i found a new symptom! You can hear white noise when messing with the volume pot. Not very loud but it is there. Then out of no where it started to send a random signal to the speakers almost like a heart beat. Keep messing with the volume knob and got it to go away! Bright channel is still working

Posting a pic of the inside and/or finding the schematic online would be a help to those who know what they're doing here. Open it up, photograph it and look for any obviously bad parts, frayed wires, etc. Not going to be able to solve anything with the amp closed up.

That white noise could easily just be the nature of the design, old SS circuits are known for being noisy.

You can find Schematics pretty easily online, but they may cost you a few bucks. Usually about $5 to $8 is what i've found.

Ya, the noise may not be a problem, that "heartbeat" thing is though.

Well learned alot today! I now know what it is like to be playing and then pick up a radio station!LOL

Second thing i learned is lighten up some and try my 8 ohm only tube amp at 4 ohms. No harm no foul right? Man 18 watts through 2x15 will surprise you.
