La Baye Basses... anyone have any info

So i recently looked up rare bass on ebay and got this...

I've never heard or seen any of these basses... so whats the story behind these axes... they command a high price it seems and are rare...

I've heard of them and seen pictures of them but never saw one in person.

They're certainly not worth $4K in my book. I've played one in the past. They are exactly as described - a 2x4 with pickups. Basically a novelty item.

"The base of the La Baye guitar has the straight, sleek look of a 2 in. by 4 in. board. Thats all thats necessary for a good amplified sound." I guess it is just was a novelty... if its just a 2 by 4 with pickups than its hardly worth the money theyre asking...
