La Bella Deep Talkin': Best. Strings. Ever.

You know, I really want to try flats on one of my basses.

Not to complain, but everytime I play on flats, I feel I would rather be doing masonary work, considering the amount of effort needed to accomplish my basslines with my fretting hand.

Does the grip and grab of flatwounds ever dull down?

I was thinking about getting some Deep Talkin Rounds for my P-bass. I'm going to start using the P-bass with my classic rock cover band and would like a slightly more aggressive tone than I can get from flats. But, I don't want an overly grindy, Rotosound, type of tone. I have Fender 7250s on the P-bass now and they are perfect. They almost as smooth and warm as flats, but have just enough grit for songs where I want a more aggressive sound. But, Fender has changed those strings and, from what I've read, the 7250s are now repackaged D'addario XLs...not what I am looking for. DR Sunbeams would probably be my next choice, but I am really curious about these La Bellas.

There is almost no information on TB about the Deep Talkin Rounds that I have been able to find. Anyone have any experience with these?

I've used them. They're pretty much your standard rounds, but not too zingy. They sound like Rotosounds or GHS Boomers that have been on for a few weeks. They do have that grindy roundwound sound though - not what I would call "dull" or "dead" sounding.

The gauges are slightly different. The E strings run on the heavy side, and the D and G strings run lighter than most other brands.

Do you mean the tension, or the stickyness? Stickyness can be cured by stuff like fastfret, or other grease. If you talk about tension, TI flats are said to have the lowest tension of all flats.
