I have a 5-string set and they're as smooth as silk. But to be fair, my hands don't sweat. So if most people say they are grabby, maybe it's true
I've been using these strings for a couple of days only, but I think they are freaking fantastic. I feel no grabbiness, but that may be because they are so new.
I would say the midrange is indeed strong, but seem evenly spaced out with lower and higher frequencies. This is, of course, compared to Deep Talkin Flats. Basically, think flat EQ. They sound great with a leather pick. Almost bell like in their clarity.
Tension seems identical to DTFs. Not as thumpy or old school though, but less modern than chromes.

I'll get around to trying to set of the Golds. My P Bass is what I'm focusing on finding the right set for.

That's the beautiful thing about TB..... opinions. I say try them. They've got mojo for days if nothing else....and they have plenty of else. More pros than cons imo.

Never heard a La Bella flat described as sticky before... These are far smoother than their standard stainless steel flats.
I hadn't either until I checked out that thread that Michael linked to.
Won't know till I try them some day.
I put these on my Musicman Sterling fretless V. They sound absolutely amazing. They nail the sound I am looking for. Great note clarity. Nice growl with a full lower mid. Somewhat scooped upper mids, and subdued highs. (But not dark sounding.) The only issue I had when using them at the last rehearsal was lack of bottom end. I need to look into this further. I don't think it was the strings. It may have been an issue with my IEM system, or I may need to adjust the pickup height a little. I will know more after the next rehearsal.
I adjusted the pickup height on my Sterling fretless. Now the string-to-string response is very even. The lows are nice and full. I got to use it at last nights rehearsal. A couple of things stood out. The strings impart a bit of an acoustic tone to the bass. I was pleasantly surprised by that. The other thing that I really like is the incredible dynamics. When you dig into these strings, the have a very percussive attack followed by a nice fretless growl. Even when played hard, they never sound harsh or unbalanced. I am very impressed.
haven't put them on my LB100 yet, because i have the superflu and the ti jazz flats sound pretty alright yo
Well, then, it is simple, buy a new bass and put the gold flats on it, keep the TIs on the current bass.
I'm about a month into these strings. They feel smooth smooth as any other flat, look bad a**, and sound phenomenal. I wish they made them for short scale basses.
