Just learned about this brand through a bass player I've been following for a while, Mitch Friedman.
Guy played Alleva-Coppolo's and Fodera's but he seems pretty dead set on his new Olinto's. He even has a custom Olinto 5 strings p bass. Cool basses.

Just put my deposit down on a Black and Tort lightly relic-ed Olinto P-bass. Now the waiting...
Just joined the olinto club with this one of a kind prototype. It took a bit to set it back up to optimal playability. The bass has changed hands several times. I imagine has had all sorts of string gauges on it. It seems these olintos really like heavy gauge strings on them. I'm currently playing Ernie cobalts .110-55 with action set really low. (I have a set of labella 1954 flats on the way) The bass plays perfect and cleanly all the way up the neck. It's definitely a keeper. This split coil telecaster bass style pickup is really really special.

Nice looking basses. What differentiates these from other “period correct” basses like ACs and Moolons?
Well I think the main thing is that they're built by Mas Hino, who by all accounts is a master luthier and vintage fender enthusiast, so they sound and feel the way he wants them.
Every bass I've played that Mas built is excellent.
But yeah I'm curious about other opinions, I played a couple ACs and a Moollon once and thought they were all great.
Interested in those players fortunate enough to have played a 5-string version thought's... It's been a real long time since I've played a 5-string but have no doubt where to go if they play and sound as good as their 4-string counterparts.
I have both. I love my five. It’s a big sound with an authentic P bass tone. Some people aren’t interested in P with a B, but I thought a B would be punchy and warm as it is on both my P5s( I also have another brand ). I’m using it during quarantine for remote sessions along with others. Their bias was for a big neck.. width... but the profile is comfy for me.
My spec is Brazilian PJ for my Olintos, and I don’t ever use both pups together. It’s either a straight P or the Jaco thing.

Best 'P with a B' concept I've ever had the pleasure to own. And I've chased it a bunch. My Sadowsky PJ5 is a close second, and can cover a lot more ground sonically, but for true/blue P-Bass ... Olinto is as good as it gets. I wouldn't dare change the low tension flats that Labella makes for these instruments. It doesn't cover every scenario, but for roots/old school funk/blues/anything that evokes that 60's tone, there's nothing better.
And the B string absolutely kills it. Excellent pitch clarity on the 'money' notes: Low Eb down to Low B. The neck profile is a bit thicker from front to back, but the spacing at the nut/strings across the neck doesn't feel all that different than my other 19mm basses.
Only downside to this bass ... wish I had some projects/gigs to use it on!
