Labella Jamerson Set

I was looking all over for a set of Jamerson strings, original oldies and found a 760FM set on ebay but I had to go to a website called, Juststrings.com. Now they noted on the page selling the Jamerson set that the strings aren't suitable for string through bass designs. My P bass is a string through and I really want the Jamerson sound...so what should I do?:help:

You dont have to get the LaBella's to get the Jamerson sound.

You just need a P bass, and a quality set of Flats.

I would say get some TI Jazz flats, but they arent a very heavy gauge.

Another option is just to get some flats with a 105 E string , maybe even a 110 if they make them.

Does your bass have the option to string through the bridge?

I use the Jamerson flats, and like you wrote, they are not long enough for string-through-body.

Also, the Jamerson flats are Labella # 0760M. The gauges are
.052 to .110

Here's where I got mine:

I hope this helps,

I have a set of Labella Deep Talkin' flats on a string through Tele bass. I noticed after having them on for a while that they don't recommend it. I have had them on a long time now and have had no problem. Fit or otherwise. They sound great, and with a little foam under the strings, you get a pretty good Jamerson sound going.
Cheers

Is it the American Standard?

If so, from this picture there looks to be some room for top-loading:

EDIT: Checked the specs on Fender's website, they say the bridge is string-thru/topload. :)

Actually it's the previous American model. So I'm not sure, I tinkered with the bass last night after my gig and it looks like my bass has the option, I'm not sure how its going to work but music is about experimenting. So I'm hoping it'll work.

Nothing sounds like them. Muted you'll be dropping Jamersonian bass bombs to your heart's content.

I'm going to get a second P and put a set on and practice the hook more. The problem with risking breaking one is the difference in tone between the huge fat fundamental of a broken in one and the hollower tone of the new one.

The reason why they don't recommend loading your flats through body is because it can cause the string to crack at the bend at the bridge, not only does that affect your playability but also your tone.
so that is why it says not to load through body with flats

I really like the LaBella Jamerson set. I have them on my '95 American Standard P-bass. The tension is definitely quite high, but the sound is great, and for me, it cleans up my technique... or rather, it keeps me honest in regard to it. I find there's not much room for sloppiness!

90s P basses were string through only.

You could put a bad ass III bridge on or find a used one from a 2003-2007, which would be the exact same bridge as the one you have, except also top load.

I believe the break angle on a string through set up is too much for most flat wounds, so I understand. I use rounds, so...
