Labella Olinto tone imbalance

I've had some Labella Olinto strings on for a while, and I mostly like them. However, the G string is too bright compared to the others, and as they break in, it becomes more noticeable. At this point I am about ready to switch to something else. Does anyone have an effective method de-trebleizing a jangly g-string? Motor oil, maybe?

I will put a small foam mute under the G while it settles in. I think it just does not get used enough to break in as evenly.

I have tried using the Eucerin skin cream, but there is not much of a difference. The brightness remains.

I've been using a mute for years off-and-on, but it doesn't effect the brightness in this case.

I have no experience with the Olinto set, but I also found the G string of their LTF set to be brighter than the rest. Eventually, I gave up and switched to the 760FL.

If its a 'lack of fundamental' you're hearing, you might try removing/detuning the string to make sure the core isnt twisted. You can see the affect when you detune and the ball end spins to release itself.

This happens during installation:

1. if you wrap the string around the post by hand—instead of turning the tuner peg.
2. the ball end getting 'bound up' in the bridge while tuning up.

Simply detuned and gently stretch out the loose string from nut to bridge. Once untwisted, retune using the peg.

YMMV, could also be a 'bad string' (especially if you've cut/trimmed them) or in need of a nutslot or pickup adjustment.

In my experience, ALL La Bella flat wound G strings are brighter than the others in the set. It’s a prime candidate for speeding up the break in process with cremes, etc. as suggested by others here.

Besides the bright G, the E string on my set is basically completely dead sounding while the upper 3 strings are considerably brighter.
Between this and the tonal imbalance in the LTF set, plus a 760FL set with a faulty G winding...not impressed with LaBella QA.
Maybe they could plow just a little of the $$ they're charging for Olinto basses to improve their string quality?!
