Lady Gaga strange bass

She kills a EBMM BigAll ... and doesn't do any music like everything on VH1/MTV/MuchMusic. It is just dumbed down music to the point that you don't need any brain cells.

Now it is not about music it is about image. Music is just a way to sell cloths, way of thinking, a new air style etc. Music is just the way to sell all those things.

KISS was metal? Even if they were, that style was well into its development before KISS. Sabbath comes to mind. Regardless, just substitute dance, pop music and Lady Gaga into your statement and the meaning is the same. I bet that for every shock rock wannabe that KISS inspired, Lady Gaga inspired an equal number of wanna be pop tarts. You should check out the Youtube links. She sings and plays instruments.

I don't mean to be insulting to anyone's tastes, but I'm not buying that she's actually a good musician. She plays piano OK at best. I'm sure that many of us personally know piano players better than her. Her usually music is so lacking of musicality that when she plays something with a bit of competency, by contrast, it seems like she's playing Chopin. She's successfully set the expectations of her abilities pretty low. But if all she did was play piano and sing, nobody would say she's a good player. If I want to hear some creative, inspired, inventive piano playing, there's no way I'm putting a Lady Gaga CD on.

In the last half century I've had the pleasure of listening to, on recordings or at live shows, and in some cases meeting and/or performing on stage with, the following excellent female artists: Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Chrissie Hynde, Exene Cervenka, Emmy Lou Harris, Maria Muldaur, Pearl Harbour, etc., etc. They all offered superb performances without the need to wear Halloween costumes and employ over-the-top spectacles to get their music across to an audience. So all I have to say to Lady Gaga is:

Get off my lawn!:rollno:

Oh, and that bass is absurd!

i don't see how anyone could say that. she may not be billy joel on the piano but she's better than most. she's certainly as good as tori amos or freddie mercury, and nobody ever said they lacked musicality. ok, her lyrics are goofy, but credit where it's due...she can sing and play piano very well. i'd like to see you do it. i can't.

actually it wasnt sabbath that started metal check out iron butterfly and blue chear sabbath was just the first pure metal band. kiss didnt just insipre shock rock bands, metallica anthrax pantera megadeth wasp sepulture alice in chains marilyn manson stone temple pilots nine inch nails nuclear assualt skid row motley crue poison soundgarden and many other metal bands are here cuz of kiss.
maybe you wernt there durring kisses early days but they opened alot of doors for bands today. as for lady gaga talented or not she is walking a well tred path, the only thing she is creating or changing is her outfits. not to she she isnt good at what she does but she isnt doing anything that wont blow over once this generation grows up and forgets about her. her music will be in a bargen bin with the new kids on the block madona and nsync at walmart soon enough.
kiss fans are kiss fans forever just like dead heads with new fans popping up every generation. pop fans follow the flavor of the moment thats cuz pop is made to fade for the next big thing with little value musically. but some music is made to be enjoyed like an icecream cone, good at the moment but nothing you want to hold onto for years.

Jimmy, I know what you are getting at; certainly there is a mix of art and capitalism in the pop culture.

However...

The "MTV" business "wizards" really have taken it to a whole new level. For reference, spend some time viewing the "Merchants of Cool" series on You Tube; then read the rest of this post.

Defining where this crosses over the line of appropriateness / acceptability is certainly a personal decision. I, as a parent of 3 daughters, had serious issues with the brainwashing that was / is going on (outside of the music). Still do, but the daughters are now past the point of influence and can see the sleaze balls for what they are. So, I'm not as engaged anymore. Doesn't lessen my dim view of the Wall Street phonies. My main problem now is the negative impact that it has on the art form. But, that's me.

BTW, I got nothing against the particular artist per se.

Who is that 80's girl in those pictures? Was that a band?

Also, just because there's no bass guitar in a song it doesn't mean there's no bass.
There's wonderful vocal basslines in Bobby McFerrin tunes for example.

She understands that music is part of the ENTERTAINMENT business, and she has created a brand. She stands out from the rest of the auto tuned pop tarts of the moment, and knows how to create catchy songs, and keep the buzz going.

Way back in the day, I was (and still am) a huge Bowie fan. Bowie used shock value, but could back it up with well written music that was perfect for the time that he did it, IMHO. Come to think of it, a lot of his stuff has stood the test of time. He was considered "edgy" in the '70's.

I don't think that Lady GaGa is any different. She is a studied musician, a good writer, knows how to use technology to get her music across, and has created a brand. Like her or hate her, to me that is great entertainment marketing, and she will be remembered for a long time.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on Lady GaGa. IMO Lady GaGa is hot. Plus, I have to admit that I enjoy seeing the effect my saying I like her has on the pious, geezers, etc.
