Lake gig

The band was distanced. The crowd not so much. It was actually in Minnesota but yeah, we debated for a while. We had a border that you couldn’t see all around the stage.

I’m glad for that.

But the data from your own state‘s health department is pretty depressing too. Where you are 1 in 20 who tested positive required hospitalization. And between a quarter and a third of those who were hospitalized died. Looking at the trend line, age breakdown, and activities that led to contracting the infection, the party you played is a textbook illustration for those stats despite being in Minnesota.

tl:dr - Just be careful. And stay well. Hard to do when the people around you are being careless because they don’t care. :)

Played a few outdoor gigs in high humidity years ago. Whether hot & humid or cold & humid, those are very challenging conditions for sure. Not quite as bad for bass though. But I feel sorry most of all for your guitarist, as it plays havoc with those thin strings.....

Looks like a fun show, but it's scary to see people that close during the pandemic.. I'm glad the gear survived the humidity, that water on the keyboard would worry me!
We wipped often. The real key guy in the band had 3 to worry bout.

I’m glad for that.

I was tested last Friday. Negative.

Works for me.

I can’t worry about people who take irresponsible chances. But I can be concerned about a fellow TBer who did the best he could given the circumstances. I personally wouldn’t have played that gig. But everybody’s circumstances are different so I try not to be too quick to pass judgement on someone else here as long as they’re not denying the seriousness of the problem we’re in the middle of not adequately dealing with. :)

Like I said, we debated not doing it. But we felt with the precautions we insisted on that we’d probably be ok. We have a couple members with connections to the medical field so we’re pretty careful.

I hate outside gigs, lake gigs, potential raining... anything where the humidity will get the equipment. I've got gear I use exclusively for that. I wouldn't book it myself, so that's what I'm bringing.
I actually like outdoor gigs under the right circumstances. This was unusual as we played the same party last year and had no weather issues.

Yeah man, we played an apple orchard last year that makes hard ciders and beers, out on a beautiful deck. As the sun dropped everything just got more and more damp. Instruments were all wet and could barely get a sound bowing the strings...

We have a wedding (our last booked gig) September 18. It’s an outdoor service/reception. It’s basically a with screens that can be lowered for bugs I assume. It’s one of those “used to be a summer camp now it’s a wedding/event site” kind of places. We’ve been in contact with the coordinator and again we will have air moving (it’s open/outdoor) and the dance floor will be distanced/separated from us. We’ll see. Like I said, one of our members could be under a travel ban for work, and my district has said no travel out of state before the first 2 weeks of school. Not sure if it will continue.

Playing outdoor gigs in FL, I feel you on the humidity. In addition to wiping equipment down frequently and running fans, I also bring a cooler full of water and fruit. I keep it at the back of the stage and everyone in the band can keep hydrated between songs throughout the sets. Heat injuries can really cramp your style :D

We did a private party lake “cabin” gig last week. REALLY humid. That’s what my synth looked like throughout the gig. The garage we played in front of was bigger than my house and valued about 5 times as much. The pay is good and food and drinks are on the house so...

Greetings All,

Your basic 20"/$25.00 fan from Walmart, position it to blow across your keyboard.

The air movement keeps the humidity from condensing on the surface.

No doubt circuits have improved but my Oberheims tended to drift sometimes with temperature extreme. Learned how to tune the poly on the fly.

Was that keyboard stored in a very cold refrigerator prior to the gig?

Condensation looks wicked thick, OP, but there are more pressing issues.

About those cargo shorts...
Yeah, I know. We don’t do enough outdoor gigs to force me to get new/better shirts. Sorry.

Although, I have to wonder why you’re looking at MY shorts in that picture...

And yes, I play a synth during the show. It’s not mine (it’s our keyboard players) I’m just using it until I decide if I want to keep doing keys or try going the effects pedals synth path.
