Lakland 01 Club Part 2

Hey everyone sorry if i sound like a noob. Basicly i have a weird question. number 1 I own a cirrus 5 redwood. love the woods and the poorman's smith sound i get out of it. The thing is the neck spacing is kinda narrow it's not that i can't play it cuase i can easily. But I pefere the spacing of the 55-01 19mm it's perfect. I love the smith sound IMHO it is the best sound out there to me no disrepect to anyone who is a fan of nordy's or barts ect... they make great pick up's and pre's. Here is my question has anyone ever attempted to swap out the stock pups and pre and install smith pick ups flat or exposed poles and the BT Smith pre amp on there 55-01 basses? I'm hoping the dimensions would fit. I love the lakland necks there pecfect. And they look great and i'm dying to get one.

That's strange cuase i read numurous threds on TB where alot people got 95 to almost 90 percent smith sound with the pups and pre swappping out the stock pubs. Also i met a bass player in ny who build a custom warmonth bass and had smith pups in em plus pre and it sounded like a smith no lie. Thanx for the reply flacoclef I appreciate the help. But i'm more concern if anyone or yourself on TB has attempted putting smith pubs and pre on a 55-01? (Flat tops or exposed poles)

I was finally able to have a Bart preamp installed in my 55-01 and man, me likey! As it still has the MK1 pups in it, it's not as nice of a tone as my 55-94, but it's a heck of a lot better than it was -- very clean and articulate. Next, the pups. :bassist:

hey guys, whats a good pre-amp for the 01? the sound im aiming for is that really thick bright tone (think of The Bouncing Souls). I (surprisingly) like the MK-1 pickups so far and the Pre-amp is OK, but is there any cheap and good pre-amp i could put in my 44-01 that can give out a lot of thick and bright harshness?

You have lots of preamp options.

If you're talking about saving money and want a new preamp, I would say check out the Audere Classic.
I think it's $129, 4 band and you can install it yourself in about 20 minutes.

Get the 18volt option and you'll have excellent headroom.

Used you could get a Bart, Aguilar, or Lakland LH3...

Hey, I have a 55-01 that's undergoing some electronic mods right now and we're having some difficulty in locating some new pots. Seems that the barrels need to be longer because they're going through wood instead of a thinner pickguard. Any idea where I can get the correct pots?
