Lakland 55-01 Vs Yamaha TRB5

A few more points: 55-01 is 35" & 19mm; TRB5s are 34" & 19mm. The TRB5II is 35" & 18mm.

True. Depends on what you're playing. I play 4 sets of T-40 music every weekend; my bone stock 55-01 does just fine thankyouverymuch.

I play a wide variety of stuff and my 44-01 works just fine.
My friends bass player has the Yamaha TRB5 and they play hard rock and metal. It sounded too clean and polite. They played "Gorilla Radio" and the bass sound was an epic fail, sounded absolutely ridiculous I'm sure the Yamaha is great for Top 40, jazz and finger tappy Patitucci stuff. But not for anything with an edge to it. These basses are two different animals. Apples and oranges.

If you didn't watch this full clip... the player goes from fingerstyle to slap and it really shows the versatility and clarity of the bass. This is the clip that got me to buy my first TRB which I stupidly sold. Someday I'll find another like it.

I strongly encourage you to get one. A TRB5 with soapbars or s TRB5II can usually be had for under $600. This is a great price for bass that was around $1,400 new.

Not true. I had mk1 trb5 for years, it was awesome and gigged it to death in my rock band. What an edge and performance. Rocked like a rocky thing playing rock!

However, I quite like the 5501 and Barts are great on it. I guess it comes down to simple choice of ones preferred tone. But, in my humble opinion, the TRB is a far better instrument in terms of build and tone - for me.

OK. Fair enough. We can agree to disagree. We just interpret a good rock sound differently. Or maybe I just have a great 44-01 and the bass player I saw just played the song to cleanly without digging in to get a good grind.

I guess we TRB1005 critics are guilty of hyperbole.
My goodness, Francis Hylton is a bad, bad, man! He handles that Yamaha just as nicely as that Seventies Fender Jazz I have seen him play before.

I'd be surprised if that 1005 is stock. I owned one and it sounded nothing like that. I couldn't get anything remotely pleasing outta that thing and I hated the neck. Very chunky. That dude is a nice player! Incognito seems to have a stock of great bass players. From what I could gather he usually plays jazz style basses particularly an Atelier Z.
