Lakland bridges

I prefer a "quick release" type of bridge and it actually seems to resonate better with this one anyway (go figure). :smug:

And since none of you can come up with a better answer than: "Don't touch it. It's precious." to the original question, I'll do it for you.

No. There, to my knowledge, is not a direct replacement due to the fact that the Lakland body and bridge have holes that run at an angle, not straight across like other string thru capable bridges. The lower (pitched) the string, the farther away the hole is.

Something about that picture just looks wrong.... Im not sure if its because its not oval, or that its black hardware... hrmm.

I have a flame maple top unlined fretless 4-94,how many flame maple top Laklands are out there ?

Hey Nino, I know you got this done, so I'm curious... is it relatively easy/inexpensive to get Hipshot to "black out" the Lakland hardware for you? I'm thinking of getting a black 55-02 and want it to be "blacked out" so to speak, and I'd really love to get Hipshot to do what they did on your bridge.

You Laklanders really are quite attached to that oval!

The oval is fairly cool and all, I like that it is different, but I think it takes away from the sweet finishes.

Mad props to you phatBasstard for swapping out the bridge, it looks excellent. Did you drill new holes I assume? Were the old holes covered up by the new bridge?

It depends on your definition of broke.

Personally, I like a Quick release bridge. Makes it a lot easier if you pop a string at a gig and need to change a string in a hurry with people staring at you. :)

I also like a quick release bridge, but what I *do* like about Lakland's bridges is that they're distinctive. Almost like it's an identity thing. I give mad props to Dan and the boys for designing (or approving, if Hipshot did the design as well) such an oddly-shaped bridge. as a design element, it works, but there's no reason to think it would have, because we're all so used to seeing more rectangular bridges.

I also think that a curved bridge matches the curve of the instrument better. Even before I'd come across Lakland, I always thought that a big square of metal kinda jarred with the curves of most bass bodies.

Nino, that's true, but the slight change to a full-on oval, though it seems like a small thing, is pretty big when you look at the old (and cool!) MM bridges. That MM bridge is really a rounded rectangle.

I do thing it goes a long way towards mitigating what I said above about the harsh lines clashing with the curve of a bass's butt, though. It might even to it better. I don't know why MM moved away from that bridge. Was there a specific reason, do you know?

And that one has the string mutes too, right? man, that's cool...
