Lakland dissapointment!!

Try rubbing the pg with a dryer sheet or using something like Endust on it. Of course, it's best to have it grounded but I've found the above to work.
I've also heard of folks cutting out a dryer sheet and putting it behind the pickguard, or using shielding tape on the underside. The dryer sheet will give you that downy freshness.
Mine is discharging static too. Usually happens this time of year.
Lakland can't eliminate the phenomenon of static electricity.
Like others are saying, wipe a dryer sheet on your pickguard.

you have to admit though, it must have been difficult to think at all spending that much money and not being happy with it...

I had a "crackling" issue with my DJ when I first got it, it is truly just static electricity build up.....you shoud not have an issue in the spring/summer when there is more moisture in the air.
as for the humming, the pick up cavities MAY need lining or a ground may be lose....I would think they would check it....
I would call Kirk and speak to him directly - he may not have been able to recreate the problem, which means that MAY be static realted as well...

They put on new ferrules. Thank you Lakland. The bass is perfect but i can´t use it in the studio or on tour but it´s the most beautiful bass i´ve ever owned. I will take it to i luthier in Sweden that hopefully will fix all the problem. It might cost me 3-400 usd but i can´t send it back again to US. The bass must work! I will swap the bartolinis from my 55-02 and put them in the 55-94 instead of LH3. The output from the A string is lower than the other strings. The G string is the one with most output. Anyone with the same problems? Pickups or just adjustment?
I have a 5502 with Lakland p/u's . G string seemed a little hot so I lowered p/u's on treble side and now sounds more balanced .

Can anyone help me with this issue. I got my Custom 55-94 about 1 1/2 month ago. It has the Lakland preamp and pickups in it.
1# Comparing to my 55-02 the ground humming is enormous.
2# Playing in Church it picking up the air signal from hearing device ( for people with bad hearing can´t find the word for it in english) The amp become a Monitor.
3# The pickguard generates Statis electricity when playing slapbass for example.
4# The volympot on both my 55-02 and 55-94 is really bad it´s working only on the last millimeter so it´s full volym or no volym at all.
5# The paintjob on it isn´t THAT good that you expect from a bass that cost 3800 USD. On the lower side of the neckjoint you can see wood and on the back where the neck is attached the screws has scratched of the paint.
6# On the back where the "String thru body cromecircle" are 4 of them has the same shape and size and 1 is smaller.
7# When recording in studio the 55-02 with bartolinis is dead silent the 55-94 is humming as hell.
So this is what you get when buying a US Lakland and wait for like 8 month for it?

Kirk has answered my mail regarding the pickguard issue but not on the other problems or dissapointment.
Why? everywhere there is only god things about lakland end their support.
I recently acquired a USA Lakland and it has a lot of noise..moreso than any bass I've ever played. Part of the reason I think is the cavity not being shielded. I was also really really amazed at how horribly they soldered everything together. I'm taking everything apart and resoldering it and shielding it at the same time and am fairly certain this will eliminate the hum. Keep in mind this bass was made in 2001..I would have guessed they would have worked out all the bugs by now though and it sucks you are having issue with yours.
I've seen some immaculate solderwork in many of the basses I've owned and I was really taken aback by the slop that was in the cavity. Everything else about the bass is wonderful, especially the neck..it's a work of art really. It is also really light and balances beautifully and the finish is up there with the best of them. I wish you luck and it sucks that you paid that much for a bass you aren't completely satisfied with. I am of the mindset that if you pay that much for a bass..there better not be one single thing wrong with it. It should be perfect from top to bottom and if it isn't, it's your right to send it right back.

There are a handful of people here on talkbass (myself included) that have experienced the quieter A string on Lakland 55-94/02's. Marshall Hiwatt was able to correct this problem by adjusting the pickup's physical location in the body cavity. My remedy was to go back to the Barts, and I am now waiting for the Nordstrand pickups I ordered to come in. I know you must be frustrated, as I was, but Lakland is a superb company to deal with and if you are ultimately unhappy they will continue to try and fix your discontent. Good luck!
Pretty damn accurate I would say. Think I'll put off my Lakland buy for a while and sit and watch.

I can not at all see lakland releasing that bass or getting it back and not fixing what needs to be fixed and I do understand what kirk was saying about the pickguard.

For the sake of balance, I own two 55-94s and a JO5. Their construction is of the highest quality with zero flaws. The Wilkins finishes are perfect. The shielding and wiring in the 55-94s are immaculate. The JO5 is unshielded. They don't buzz any more than any of my other basses.
I'm amazed that no one has pointed out that the environment usually is the biggest culprit with buzzing. If you're playing around fluorescent lights, you will get buzzing, depending on which way you're facing. If you've got crud on your line voltage, you're going to hear it in your amp. All of my basses buzz under one condition or another, and none of them are cheese weenies.
