LAKLAND METAL????

I have an early CAR 4 string (#2x) with a matching headstock. The first thing one of our guitards said when he saw it was "We don't play metal."

So I guess a Lakland will work for metal if it's the right color.

:)

juan alderete uses laklands with the mars volta... not exactly metal, but heavy.

I used the same pickup spacing as his dual Darkstar jazz for my dual Darkstar G4. I use that in a band that I've described as "Tool having sex with Queensryche in 11/8 time."

The transitive property of pickup spacing dictates that you can use a Lakland in a rock/metal setting.

So I've been hearing that Laklands are mostly used for Jazz and funk stuff. So I'm talking to my bass buddy Josh the other day and asked him about Lakland. He claims they can be used for hard rock/ Tool style music.
To his suggestion i was like :eyebrow:

Can anyone clear this up for me?
Can Lakland Basses be used for hard rock?
Cause if so I'm buying one lol :hyper:

Please with the comments and the suggesting and the Oh please help me haha

Thanks
Geezer Butler (of Black Sabbath) uses Laklands these days, I believe.

Pretty metal, if you ask me.

I used the 55-02 in prior bands as well as my current band. It's an excellent band for Hard Rock. I'm more in the alternative rock genre, but we can get pretty heavy too. I've owned two 55-02's with the Bart Pickups and Pre and One that I installed Nordstrand Pickups with the Bart pre. I've never owned the Lakland LH-3 pre/pickups but I've played them plenty of time. Each 55-02 has held its own in the harder rock realm, but I'd recommend the Nordstrands. the MM5.4 and NJ5S was just tonal bliss for that bass. Paired really well with the Bart Pre as well.

Like many have noted. Geezer uses them. Ben Kenney from Incubus. Juan Alderete from The Mars Volta, Tobin Esperance from Papa Roach, Nate Mendal from The Foo Fighters, In addition to many other great Rock guys. They may not all be the Justin Chancellor or Paul D'Amours, but I can guarantee you can get close to their tones with the right settings on the 55 series. Super versatile bass.

enough said! and most said what I wanted to.

I've owned a 4-94 barts and currently play 55-94 alder/rosewood barts, 55-94 ash/maple (barts, later converted to bart pre/lakie pups). Never tried Norstrand or Basslines but from what I have heard they also will fit well into harder music.

What I particularly like about the 94/02 series is that it sits great in jazz (i used them with a big band), jazz/funk AND metal. I played Laklands in two metal bands, one thrash, one melodic. And, the pickups I traded for the LH-3, I swapped with a Lakland artist Andrey Opletaev, who plays in a leading new metal/alternative band in Russia, Psychea. We both liked the change, cool :)

So, of the pickups you're getting in the 4-02 package:
The Barts will give you a thumping, dense support of mid-lows. The Laklands have that modern mid-scoop with ever more defined highs and lows; they bite. They are a bit "shallower" though. The Basslines are said to have the most agressive voice; when installed on the 94/02, they produce a sound which is the closest to the MM SR. However, I don't know if you will be able to find a 02 with the Basslines installed - they were rare. The Nordstrands of all mentioned above seem to be are the essence of classical.
As you see, each taste may compliment to your music. Rock it!:bassist:
