So out of curiosity, you P-bass guys, where in the world do you anchor when playing closer to the bridge? lol. After my first hour of playing the BG5, I am both in love and frustrated. Love the sound, love the looks, didn't realize how much I played anchoring on the bridge pickup of my J basses. Oh well, I'm sure it will come to me. DEFINITELY don't want to come off as ungrateful, just never really had a P before and was curious what everyone else did...

Floating thumb technique. That's how I play, and never need a thumbrest.

I wouldn't even worry about that.

P basses are very difficult to play anyways. Plus they sound awful. :rolleyes:

I'll be happy to take if off your hands...

Yeah, I'm working on using the B aka "the big thumbrest", just never really did it much. Regarding a thumbrest, that would look really weird to me. Maybe I could have a dummy J put there, LOL.

I'm with J4--anchor on the body, if need be. Although I generally play right over the pickup, or even closer at times. If you need a more-defined sound on a P bass--use a pick!:bassist:

Hehe. Give it a try, Randy, it's not too hard to pick up. And a P, in my opinion, sounds better with a pick than any other bass.
