So here's a question for you guys.... When it comes to picking colors on your basses, do you just consider each bass independently (and disregard the current colors in your stable), or do you try to mix and match accordingly with the other basses. Just wondering.

Good question. I try to mix and match, but as someone else said, you have to roll with what's available when you're buying used and great deals are out there. I'm not a big fan of sunbursts, yet here I am with a two-tone burst Fender P and a 3TS JO (both great basses!).

Actually, it's funny how it's worked out now: I have the traditional P and J in traditional old 'bursts. Then my other three basses (after I sell off the Reverend and the DS'd Skyline Glaub) are much different: I have a Dark Starred bass in shoreline gold with blocks, a Chi'd bass with burgundy, blocks and binding and a black headstock (Sky Decade), and a CAR bass with blocks and binding (Sky DJ) which I'll either sell or put Chis in.

Wilkins does the finishes for US Lakies and Sadowsky (and perhaps others).

I was going to use Pat, but he was a bit backed up, so I went with Marty, who came highly recommended, and surely did not disappoint.

Well it looks like im coming back to Lakland.
Im expecting to swap my white Fender P5 for a Natural + Maple Skyline JO5 today (tuesday).
Not looking forward to loosing my only P but i am looking forward to getting a Lakland again. This will tied me over until i can get a BG5 ;-)
I believe it has Lakland pups on it. Thats a shame as while i have no experience with them i absolutely loved the Fralin on my Duck Dunn and have heard great things about the Jazz set as well.
Im using Chromes on the P5 at the moment but they will go with the Bass. I think ill put a set of Elixirs on the JO5 when i get it but might got back to Chromes (or at least flats) at some point. I quite fancy some overtones in my sound for a while.

so, the big question is what pick guard ot go for. It comes with the off white one but i dont like white. Ive seen some great pics on the Dudepit photo gallery of this bass with a black one on. I think that will be great but open to ideas. Anyone got any pics of the JO5 with the above finish?

Ill post some pics when i get it.

Welcome back to the fold, Dave! You couldn't stay away. Check Lakland's soundclips for a Fralins/Laklands J pickup comparison. As for the pickguard, I think black is the winner with natty/maple. If the board was rosewood, I'd say tort.

when i think of dark natural, i think of warwick basses. they look pretty nice to me, so that's why i always mention that i dislike lighter colored natural finishes.

The Crush was almost walnut. Something about a white P bass really get me.

I got 3 now.

I'm really digging the stacked knob setup on my JO--rolling the tone halfway off on the bridge pup (with everything else full on) beefs things up nicely while still providing a lot of bite.

I'm interested to hear Fralins + Chromes, too. I'll have to try that on the JO sometime.
